How Does Quest Tracking Work?

Merry Christmas! I don't understand how quest tracking works. I know I can mark quests as "favorites", but sometimes the quest tracker appears in the top right during gameplay and most of the time it doesn't. I have no idea how to turn this on or off, or why it shows sometimes and not other times.

Is this automatic? Press some sort of button in the menu? What does favoriting a quest even do?

In the quest menu you choose which quests you wanna be tracking.
Then outside of the menu you can cycle through those with Q or E and keyboard, or by pressing the sticks on controller.

This information isn't super visible, but in pretty much every menu you can press H in any menu to pull up the manual, where everything ios explained. This will most likely come in handy a few more times.

So favoriting a quest marks it for possible tracking, and then you have to press the key to bring it up? I completely forgot about clicking the sticks in on the controller.
