Quest givers are also concentrated within their guild buildings, and those buildings have smol icons above doors, so it's a matter of 4 checks at worst, if you forgot every single one (can easily happen in Bergen when you just run around erratically).
But anything resembling the travesty in Bethesda's paid modding platforms -no, no no no. This game is nowhere big enough to give even an excuse for that. And I hate being treated by default like I had enough extra chromosomes to share with the whole family.
We have quest log, main quest is separately listed, there one clear main building in each city/hub where you need to go to advance the MQ.
The only thing a "3D" quest marker or compass/minimap with such achieves is that players stop noticing anything in the game besides the trail on minimap.
I don't even see the point in using stamps, if the map has no detail other than showing an area outline.
I would actually agree with this. A little more detail on the map wouldn't hurt. I would even say, skip that and add a mini-map because that's how much detail we get at present. But that's about it. "A little." Nothing more.
However, this part I don't 100% agree with.
And actually, I've wanted to say something about this for a while now:
50 stamps isn't really even enough. Hear me out. Gaia's Garden, is HUGE. On top of this, there are those wave portal things, some jump pads that are cleverly hidden in shrubbery that are easy to miss, the normal smattering of caves you can't enter without meeting pre-conditions, AND a healthy handful of 'doorways' which do not appear on the map but can only be accessed by exploring and being creative. One of my recent play-throughs, I started to do a MASSIVE mark-up of all these little things, including spots with those 'half steps' in order to reach higher ground. Mainly because you can't even do full exploration without wave, and you might as well comb through it all twice. Well, that's what I wind up doing. Anyway, during that time, I RAN OUT of stamps half-way through, and had to play a triage game of "well, what do I REALLY need?" And even then, I still came out like 5 short. :( I was sad. What did make me happy however was the update that expanded how many different symbols were added.... some months ago.
I will also add that, the best and my favorite use of the stamps is to mark the places of boxes that I can't access on my initial pass, as well as caves and other barriers (think the ice wall in "Icy Cauldron" of Bergen trail). But I doubt I'm the only one who does that, not even close, otherwise there wouldn't have been a reason to add the other symbols. I would go so far as to say I enjoy charting the map with stamps. But at this point I'm talking in circles, since I just said a little more detail wouldn't hurt. Ah well.
That said, the reason I never said anything before is because, I'm perfectly willing to work within the limitations given. In fact it can be fun to do. I just thought since it was brought up I'd take an opportunity to share my experience, since I also enjoy that.
As a minor aside, if people want, I could probably create a jpg file with my mark-up, and I'll throw it in the Community guides section. I mean, some time after 1.0 comes.
I thought those were a collectable I was terrible at using. What are they actually for?
But it's not really needed (and in fact done to a certain degree already). There are far more important things that the devs are doing.
Like getting the game out.
