Yea that sounds like fun. Doing it twice. Thats great game design. I have an infinte amount of time at my disposal and there are no other games or hobbies that are as much fun as doing a dungeon twice in Cross code.
i understand the argument for "just ignore it," but i think it's a bit....uncouth(?) for the game to even suggest that there's some kind of time restriction on these massive dungeons. it's easy to say just ignore it, but it's always gonna be something at the back of your mind when you're figuring out these elaborate puzzles, and no one likes the feeling of being rushed.
Honestly I just stumbled upon it by accident and now that I know it really bothers me. I loved the first dungeon. I took my time and really explored every nook I could find. The second dungeon was the one I actually tried to race her and because the timelimit is so steep (if you go in blind for the first time like I did) it makes no fun at all. You have 60 minutes for both levels, and if you fail the first you automatically lose the second. Second dungeon that is.
Instead of appreciating puzzles you get annoyed by em because you are not solving it fast enough. You have this urge to reload areas in which you did really bad and everytime you die in a combat puzzle you pull your hairs because its another minute wasted. Of course you save during the dungeon in regular intervalls (because you never know when you take too much time at a certain spot) but its still just reloading and playing the same thing again because it took you way too much time to figure out.
I mean you can do it, and it works, the game wont restrict you in that way, but honestly its not fun.
It just bothers you that its an actual race you can win, but the timelimit is so steep and if you fail (like I assume many of us do) it makes you feel stupid. If I wanted that feeling Id go out in the real world. No thanks
For me personally, the small competitor in me was always thinking at the beginning "cmon bro hurry up and beat this puzzle so you can beat Emilie," and it wasn't really the most fun feeling. Or at least, it's not the feeling I was looking for when going through these sprawling dungeons.
If you like challenge in games this is an argument to be made. But the problem with "this"kind of challenge" is that you can easily overcome it by just savescumming every puzzle room (which is nothing but tedious) or you can run through the dungeon once at your leisure and then re do it again (which is nothing but tedious).
Unless you are a puzzle guy ( I am not ) that figures out most of these puzzles in a few seconds (that does not include the times when the puzzle was easy to understand but the aiming/controls made me do it multiple times) the time adds up really fast.
So you can either save-scum and beat her easily (that is not fun though, because its just reloading) or you can actually try to beat her blind/no help which makes the whole dungeon frustrating because you always have the timer in the back of your head. If you win, I assume its great, but more likely you will lose on your first try and then you just feel stupid. Also you will not enjoy the journey at all.
This makes me kind of not wanting to go in the next one.
That was what I thought in the start to.
I will try to win at least one of the other dungeon races too, I just hope there aren't to many comments about how unimportant and stupid it is, wanting to win them just because it's not important to the people who say it. I'm only saying it because in a few other topics in other games I saw the people already being unnecessarily being mean
I would love to have it be default Lea win myself, and only if you really suck you lose to her. But I enjoy having reasons to replay games too so whatever.
Agreed, I didn't expect it to be an actual race at first, so I wasn't trying to rush. By the second temple, I did attempt to race and found myself enjoying it less.
There's a conversation between Joern and Apollo later in the game where Joern says it was really nice to do a dungeon without Apollo rushing him, and I understand. Even if you're not the smartest person ever, there's something to be said about relaxing to a puzzle. The solutions you concoct in your head and executing your ideas, usually followed by error and more trial, can be fun and satisfying when you figure it out yourself.
Also the dungeons have nice music and it's a wonderful break from the fast action. In the end, it is still optional, but I would prefer a yes/no option to the races.
Holy damn, i've beaten her in every temple except the Krys'Kajo om every single try.
Plus she's a great character.
You just need more practice.
