This 'competition' with Emilie
I kinda remember I beat her at belgen mine dungeon in my previous playthrough(more
than 1 year ago), but this time I find her cleared first so I loaded save and did it again in
time attack manner(since I have fresh memory about all the puzzles), yet she was still
there when I entered epilogue room.

So what's happening here?

1. Am I actually have to do it even faster?
2. Or is my memory wrong and there isn't actual competition?

which one is it?

there is a competition, they made it more likely for her to win after the release of 1.0

...........Are you certain? I was able to, not only get all the boxes, but complete the botanics analysis, find all the subquest items, and still came first. :S I'm as confused as you.

I believe the total time alloted is either 1 hour or 1.5 hours. That 'should' be a really generous window............

Really? Then something is clearly wrong here because my second try was a lot faster
than 1 hour.:steamfacepalm:

Does it change anything if we or she wins? Like, is there a reward for doing one or another?
Aquillion Sep 23, 2018 @ 11:42am
I know there was a bug in earlier versions that meant that she would never win, but that was fixed.

As far as I know you only get a trophy (achievement) if you manage to win in every single dungeon race against her. I don't think you get anything other than that.

This really should be made clear so that people know to make a save before starting the dungeon. Is there any way to redo them later? Or is this a case of "your entire save file is ruined and you don't even know unless you use a guide"?

Ehhhh... losing a competition that has no impact in the story doesn't ruin a save? You'll most likely have to replay the game to get 100% anyway, and there are lots of games that do this, like saints row.

Besides, they talk about the competition in basically every dungeon. I don't think it could be clearer than that.

Can't be redone as far as I know. Luckily I found out about this before my first dungeon race.

Miss-able achievements are really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing to do and some of us hate them. And I'm not even hardcore achievement hunter, I only 100% games I really enjoy and only if they don't have any unreasonably difficult achievements.

I kinda want to 100% this game, so if I found out about this after losing a dungeon run I would perhaps just give up from the entire game.

This could be easily resolved by adding a line by Emilie before the first dungeon that says something like, "According to what I heared from some other players/guide, I feel I could get this done in about an hour, tops!" which gives the player more of a clear hint about a time limit.

Easy for you to say. I'm already twelve hours into the game and now may have to redo all of that? That's a pretty hefty loss.

Do you have any sources where it says you might get a trophy for beating Emilie in every single dungeon?

It's in the trophy list. Under "General" and "Special" Pic[puu.sh]
Somewhat annoying since I lost the tutorial dungeon and just passed the faj'ra dungeon, no way am I restarting any time soon.
