If you don't like them, your best bet would be wishing the game gets popular like Stardew valley and getting some portrait mods
I like Anime and watch it personally, but in it's worst character quickly look exchangeable in terms of facial features (e.g. all noses look identical). So we decided to take aspects of Anime but mix it with others things as well (e.g. noses have more variety).
Of course that's not for everyone. That's pretty much impossible anyway.
We could have gone for a "perfect" Anime style but you can bet other people would complain about this as well.
the quality is definitely there, and im enjoying the game
