Arguably Swapping the R and L buttons IS an option, so If enough people want this, we might actually implement such an option.
That being said, controller versus mouse and keyboard is a major tradeoff in this game either way- I imagine it'll be a major point of discussion among speedrunners. Which is more important? The precise movement of an analog stick, or the precise aming of a mouse?
To some extend we dictate a control scheme because we know it's the one that will work in the long run. If we allow fully customizable controls, players are likely to create a control scheme, that might feel more comfortable to them but simply doesn't provide all the options needed to play the game decently.
Example:
1. You might think that attack and dash should all be placed on the Face buttons, no shoulder buttons
2. You configure your controls that way. Dashing is on a face button.
3. That also means that it's not practical to dash while aiming, because it's difficult to hold the right analog stick and press the face button at the same time
4. As a consequence you play the game not aiming much because it's makes you vulnerable since it's difficult to dodge.
5. The game is overall less fun and more frustrating
It's like a car manufacturer not allowing their customers to tune their cars. I shouldn't have to explain why this is a bad idea.
People are doing this in fact. And maybe somebody actually might implement a mod for that if this is truly desired so much.
You're being a bit obnoxious and rude. Different games have different controls. Don't like it, find a mod, or mod it yourself.
exactly
I am sorry for the energy that a few comments are directing your way. I surely would love the option to switch LB/LT <-> RB/RT for attack and dash. I already love the thorough option menu and it would be a fine addition to customise this layout in my opinion.
so far i've gotten 3 people into the game, and all of them have had the same complaints about the lack of options on the controls.
I my self didn't even touch block until i was post game and working on getting all achivements because the controlls for block were a pain in the ass to use. which is funny because i went into the game wanting to play a more tanky, blocking playstyle, but i gave up on that because i couldn't remap the controls. all i ended up doing for the achovement was going to the starting area, and spamming block for 2 or 3 hours while watching youtube videos just to get the blocking achivements out of the way.
like hell... the controls were so unfun and weird to use that i completely iggnored an entire mechanic that i went into wanting to use... if that's the intended effect, then... i don't know what to say.
oh, and for a spesific example of the control scheme i wanted, i wanted to mimic dark souls 3's control scheme because i had just gotten off playing through that the day before i got cross code. it basically had a lot of the same kinda controls, block, a dodge, attack, special attack, quick invintory... just in all different places, and it lets you customize controls if there's an issue...
The LT "defense button" that becomes Guard when not moving was tough for me to execute Perfect Guards with, as if you are moving at all, it becomes a Dash instead. Often times, I ended up using the B-face button to execute my Perfect Guards as it was much more reliable at hitting the critical frame window, without worrying about my momentum, or last second touch of the left-stick, causing a Dash instead. However, this means I end up releasing the right stick to press it, making it difficult to aim immediately after, or during, the Guard. In bosses, this is not really an issue, as I generally have one enemy to deal with, with a repeating attack pattern, and the predictability allows me to plan my guards and attacks effeciently. However, when fighting groups of trash, it is more difficult to execute this back and forth as there are generally multiple different enemies with different attack patterns and different target focus.
As a result, not only was switching from Guard to Aiming difficult admist a battle of random monsters, but it never really enticed me to use the "aim through shield" function. Again, using the trigger (at least for me) is fairly unreliable and sometimes ends up resulting in a Dash instead of a Guard. I'm not sure how to remedy this... perhaps allowing an adjustment on the dash/block window for the shoulder button, or maybe allowing me to swap the face-Guard button to the bumper next to Dash instead, and then move the quick menu to the face button.
Any thoughts on this? Or is there already a solution to this and have I been playing this incorrectly the whole time?
