Infinite gem, what is it good for?

Title, I can't find a use for the darn thing despite it seeming to be the 'ultimate' trade good as far as I can tell.

I think it is used to trade for a certain weapon or equipment later on (correct me if I'm wrong). I'm hoping there's a trading quest line that will eventually lead to endgame/relic gear later on.

You can now get access to the black market in the Basin Keep slums, if you follow a certain quest line. There's a shop there that uses it for a very nice weapon.

You upgrade the Giga Spiral Drill to the GalaxySpiral Drill (best weapon at the moment IMO) in later stages of the game with it

Thanks. Say I'm currently doing mushroom kingdom and am unsure how to get up to that dude. Mind dropping a hint by telling me what location I need to 'start' my elevation/climb at?

Infinite Gem is traded by a shifty looking trader near the south end of Rookie Harbor East. It requires a unique item called King's Ring, found in a chest in Autumn's Fall, as well as a number of plant drops from the Autumn's Fall area.
