But yes they are very different, and should not probably really be compared especially since most Xcom Likes also need the AntFarm + world map saving.
It happens when you advertise/hype a game by saying “From <insert developer> the makers of <insert game>”.
Regardless, people were going to compare the two due to both XCOM and MS being made by the same developer and both being games that revolve around turn-based tactical combat.
Yes, it’d be ideal if every game was judged based solely on its own merits instead of being compared to others - just ask Striking Distance and WB Montreal how unfavorably their newest games have done when being compared to Dead Space and the Arkham series respectively…but it’s gonna happen.
The best you can do as a consumer is to actually familiarize yourself with what you’re buying, and as a player doing your best to judge a game based on what it IS instead of what it ISNT.
I definitely like both games, but 'turn based combat with a grid' means I could compare Heros of Might and Magic 3 to Xcom, which would be just as wrong.
But I like it quite a bit, the dev team have been very creative with all the different power cards and options available to the player.
Yeah you can definitely see that the devs of Xcom made this game too, but it's still different enough to be its own thing and not "Marvel Xcom."
It's got some of the same elements, which is normal since it's a turn based tactical battle game from the same devs as Xcom.
But there are lots of very different features too, so the game is far from being exactly like Xcom. And this is a good thing.
The Xcom combat system would have been horrible for Midnight Suns. Iron Man sneaking in cover trying to avoid being hit, Captain America missing shield throws over and over again even at point blank range.
Combat is still totally different though, which I agree is what most people are comparing to, and its not even close.
