Most underwhelming for me was Spider-Man. I felt like he relied to much on environmental attacks. Those attacks are good but they run out faster than you would like them too. His bind is great but there are heroes that can just outright kill things and that's better. I imagine things like bind and stun are much more useful in the higher difficulties when everything is much harder to kill.
In conclusion i think all characters are fairly balanced, but you need to make your team comp and adapt your play style to what characters and cards you pick. Just like any strategy game
Blade was my most used and favorite character at the start of the game. I I barely use him at all now. His powers just don't get better like the majority of the characters, he's a very much "do one hit for some OK damage" kind of guy. When enemies at the start are weak, he's great. When late-game baddies have minimum 128+ health he's useless.
Scarlet Witch is difficult to bring on missions with Magik/Dr Strange/Nico all there doing magic much better.
I love doing environmental stuff, so Spidey is also pretty fun to bring along. Blade is great if you bring him to fight those soullinked lilim who attack bleeding targets. He essentially turns them into extra teammates.
Least used is probably Tony and Steven. Its bad enough I have to deal with them between missions. I'm having a hard time getting into Scarlet Witch. She sounds good on paper but haven't really got her working for me yet.
IMO:
SSStylish: Ghost Rider
A: Nico, Strange
B: Cap, Blade, Magik
C: Captain Marvel
D: Wolverine, Spider-Man
Hunter is obviously pretty broken. Haven't used Iron Man enough to have an opinion, he seems like he could be extremely strong if you center your strategy around him, I'll use him in NG+. Nico is borderline S with the right team, Strange is more consistent and fits in every team but is slightly weaker IMO. Cap is amazing at his job but I find all-out offense to be the more effective strategy. I just unlocked Blade's Reaper ability and I'm expecting that to make a huge difference in his effectiveness, he might be A-tier. Similarly Magik has some crazy late-game abilities and will probably go up a tier or two.
Captain Marvel is obviously great in binary but she demands all the card plays to do so, I really don't think she's worth it vs Ghost Rider or Iron Man as a "build-around" character. But maybe she gets a late-game card that makes a difference. Not impressed with Wolverine as a tank, I prefer Cap in every single way. On high difficulties Wolverine easily gets killed before he can heal, and he doesn't help the team besides taunting while Cap is providing block and card draw. Spider-Man is like the anti Ghost Rider in that he makes every mission take longer. Taking out minions is pretty easy so specializing in it isn't very valuable. If I wanted bind I'd take Strange any day and get a Vulnerable out of it. Specializing in environmentals is pretty cool, but it's not enough to make me ever want Spider-man on my team.
if i was able to play as magneto or sabretooth or someone that was my favirote character but they were one of the worst to play as, id be forced to play the game on hard mode
Stake is his best and most powerful (I don't have his legendary ability). It's great early game, but when your best move is to absorb 200 HP you're not gonna get picked very often.
Again, just theory as I don't use him much, but he's definitely got some insane single target potential.
Champion level 20, halfway through Act 3.
Wanda has replaced Ghost Rider as 'do I have to take them?' character. Ghost Rider has grown on me a lot more since that post, just I'm using him suboptimally because I build against his discard effects in every other deck.
Wanda on the other hand, goodness knows. Even her legendary spell is pure fail at U3. No, I ain't going to phoenix down your dumb ass, witch.
Magik remains queen, with much love for Nico too.
I try to use everyone equally otherwise, but sometimes I almost feel like I'm hindering myself by not taking Iron Man. Every time I have him in a mission or pick him I just destroy the mission so hard. IDK if it's his deck, or if I just made accidental amazing synergies but he just feels so good when I have him. Also, occasionally Spider-man. He's a bit situational but an upgraded THWIP! on a boss with Opportunist is basically a free one-shot round.
