Guide to *actually* getting On the Fourth Day We Had a Feast

I've seen many threads that the achievement is very tough to get. Many people try various tactics, but it usually only works spontaneously. Personally, I've tried many tactics I read about as well and none of them did the trick. But getting this achievement is extremely easy if you know what you should actually be doing. I've done an extensive research on how it should be done, and here's me sharing this with everyone else.

Important note here, I'm writing about version 1.2.0, which is the latest on Steam at the moment of writing.

So, without further ado. The Steam achievement reads like this: "Hunt 20 deer before the end of day four." Here's how it should be written correctly:

Get the 10th deer kill on day four.

Yes, you've read this correctly. It should be 10 deers, not 20. And you should get your 10th deer kill exactly on day 4. If you get it earlier, it won't unlock.

Once you know this, the achievement is quite trivial: just hire several archers and get a couple of deers each day for the first three days. On the fourth day, just start herding deers non-stop until the achievement unlocks. This will happen during the day right after you kill the 10th deer, so you don't have to wait for anything. Of course, you can get 9 deers on the first three days and only get the last one on the 4th, but it's a bit risky because an archer may kill a deer by himself when it's not the time yet.

That's it. It has been verified, it works. Hope this saves a ton of frustration for the other players when playing this otherwise amazing game.

Thanks for the guide, though it still sounds like a lot of frustration to me. If the devs were still around, I'd suggest changing it to actually count if you kill 10 deers BY the 4th day. Having to get the kill exactly ON the 4th day makes it needlessly tedious in my opinion.

But again, thumbs up for the helpful post! It's bound to help many people who are willing to put the effort into getting the achiev

Doesn't work for me so I must be doing something wrong. I even waited until day 4 to start killing deer, counted to make sure I got ten, did, but no achievement.

When counting manually, keep in mind deer kills may happen off screen when you don't expect it. If you're absolutely sure that you killed 10 on day 4, then too many of them must've been killed on previous days. Although I have a suspicion you miscounted, killing 10 deer in one day is quite difficult. Also I would check the game version.

This is 100% true and working as of 1.2.0 (as said initially by the post), just letting others know that this still holds true; you have to get 10 deer kills, the 10th being on the 4th day.
I've spent 3 hours on this one achievement which is 1/3rd of my total time in the game.

I was getting so fed up with this achievement. I had backed up a new save that had a good seed, so I could keep restarting on a good map layout that I could familiarise myself with. I tried so many times, try-harding so much. Walls on either side in clearings but before portals so archers roamed the forest on both sides, archer shrine always active from late day 1, recruiting lots of archers, chasing deer back to camp during night so they could be shot in the morning, etc.

Some video guides seem much more casual, they definitely weren't trying as hard as I was. It was getting infuriating. Then I finally found this thread. I restored the same backup and made walls out in the forest clearings, but never activated the archer shrine, and only really herded deer on day 4. Got it first try doing that.

So I'm just another comment here to say thank you for this!

Thanks for the guide, I was wondering how the heck am I supposed to kill 20 deer if I can't even see that many on the map O.o

Another small deer mechanic I noticed is that deer re-spawn near camps if you kill a lot of them(or maybe there's a deer tied to each camp and it re-spawns once you kill it, similarly to peasants re-spawning?). That means that if you make a wall after a camp and let that camp livee might be a good way to farm deer, since then archers tend to roam the forest that contains the camp and is now part of your kingdom.

My only regret is that I haven't come upon this post earlier. Could've saved me a lot of frustration and much, much more useless information about this game that I know now. This post should come with the game!

This is legit and its working. i do it by killing 2 deers for the first 3 days and finish the rest on 4th. Thanks for the post.

The developer should've just fixed the description, that would take all the difficulty out of it. The funny thing here is that usually guides are focusing on maximizing the deer count, which is, as you've realized, is a wrong thing to do since if you kill 10 deers before the 4th day comes, it won't do the trick. Ironically, the guides that may accidentally help are the ones which suggest inefficient ways to kill deers.
