Controller Companion

Controller Companion

This versus Xpadder?
I know Xpadder is (largely) a glorified Joy2Key with better controller support, but what does this do differently?

Xpadder is for play games with no gamepad option... and can be also use to move your PC.. Xpadder need configuration mapping the buttons and stuff it could be not much work but it needs to..

This software in difference to Xpadder cause its only to surf your pc and while your gaming its turns on and off automatically ... its kinda the integration of Steam and becoming you pc a full console... not getting up of your couch..

Now, ´´The big difference here´´ is that Controller companion need no configuration on the go just plug in you control and is ready, Automatic On Off switch and has complete integration with Multimedia and the Steam plataform...

Is just ANOTHER Product ... Dont be afraid of change my friend... we cant stuck always with Xpadder or joytokey... I like this product it need polishing but it is Ok..

And Come on... its just 2 dll and I m Mexican... i win alot less money that americans and i think is realy cheap

Dont see the point of this kind of silly questions on the developer forum... its like HEY!! HEY!! DONT BUY THIS ... XPADDER ITS FREE... people know about Xpadder believe me... but people like me its tired of exporting configs or dealing with the UGLY interface.. I pay 2 dll to get rid of that..

Later dude, i hope i awnser your question..

You install Controller Companion: it works directly.
Initial binding is good and intuitive. Initial settings are clever.
Minimalist interface is efficient and easy to use.
The virtual Keyboard is not bad at all.
It's on Steam... They say updates will be free... I read it's DRM free...

For someone who wants just navigate Windows with a controller, it could worth to pay the price to have this smooth and easy-to-use application. I hesitated, now I don't regret it! :)
On the other hand, for someone happy with Xpadder, or who couldn't afford the price, I admit there is no real reason to change. (And Xpadder is better to play games, of course).

I would be interested to have opinion of someone who used both a lot...
This is workable for non controller supported games, but the only thing this is letting it down compared to xpadder in that way is the reason that xpadder supports profiles of saved settings as 1.
and 2 being able to configurate what the joystick's do.
I'm pretty sure that this team could add (if they want to) for Controller companion:
1) profiles
2) joystick configuration
Isn't it?

It would be interesting updates for "gamers"...

EDIT:
An interesting post from dev:

Anyway, I didn't succes with the joystick, but you can already bind the DPad to play with WASD. :D

I used to use joy2key for a long time and this is much better having a profile preset for me and the virtual keyboard's seamlessness is what Windows is all about :P
Let say will it work for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare ?

Xpadder is not free at all.
I've used Xpadder for over 6 years and love it and I decided to give this product and it's great for what it does.

Here are things that I like about this over xpadder.

Abliity to input text easily. Never found a great way to do this with Xpadder.

When starting a game it deactivtates. In Xpadder I had to have a set button comibination to switch between the different profiles and sometimes it swtiched while playing certain games becuase I would hit that combination by accident.

Starts with windows. Ever since upgrading to Win 8, xpadder fails to load at startup. This just could be an issue with my setup.

Easy to turn off controller. I always had to unplug the battery.

These are the advantages of Xpadder.

Works with any controller not just the xbox 360.

Ablilty to program complex macros and assign to any button.

Ablity to map 2 buttons to one key. ex CTRL + PGDWN would allow me to switch browser panels with one button instead of having to use two.
what's great about xpadder is it's ability to assign xbox one controller triggers to games that do not recognize them i.e. doom 3 (not bfg edition) and quake 4. joytokey and c360ce do not allow for this.. yet.

Xpadder is $10 and offers inferior desktop navigation.

The best feature of CC is that you can force it to run while the game is running and use its mouse control and virtual keyboard to input text in games that, although can be played with controller, require you to fill forms (for example, to name profiles and saves). The integration with Steam is seamless.

The price is very low for the convenience it gives you, it's only $3, even if Xpadder was free it would be a viable option, plus it's got Steam Workshop support so it's far more couch-friendly than Xpadder.

This app is something that should've come built into Windows 10 IMO.

Xpadder can be used with any joypad or joystick, CC only works with Xbox360 controllers (unless you install x360ce).
Xpadder enables you to create elaborate macros, CC only offers simple button combinations.
Xpadder allows you to give different keyboard commands depending on how far an analog joystick is moved, CC only gives basic configuration options for programming the axis.
Xpadder has a large community which provides profiles for gamepads and joysticks, profiles for games and lots of tutorials about how to use the more advanced features of Xpadder, CC has a much smaller community on the Steam forum but it's UI is much more polished and user friendly making it easy to create your own custom profile for almost any game.
And last but not least CC offers desktop control and text input from the get go, text input with Xpadder is much more complicated.

So it largely depends on your wants and needs. If you primarily use an Xbox360 controller and you want to use it to play (older) FPS games then CC is probably the better option. If you want to use one or several other types of controllers for games which require more complicated controls then Xpadder is your best choice.

I've been using both programs for a while now and I prefer the polished and user friendly UI of CC. So I usually first try to create a profile for a game with CC and if this doesn't work for some reason I'll resort to Xpadder. Usually I can get CC to do what I want to do, so Xpadder remains mostly unused lately.

To sum things up: for only € 3,- CC does exactly what it promises, I can confirm from experience that everything they claim you can do with CC works as advertised.
For € 10,- Xpadder is a much more versatile program, but it's also much more complicated to set up. However if you don't mind reading lenghty tutorials and do some experimenting, you can do things with Xpadder that you won't be able to accomplish with CC.
