Another question: what is the purpose of the app in Steam if I already have it installed "outside" of Steam as .... standalone? app?
happily my system backup was creators update,
i think M$ try to oblige us to leave cc,joy2key etc...
they made SEA OF THIEVES just for MODERN UI...
why i boycott UWP apps, + i use mainly my pc for audio work.
i recommend to format and install win 10 vanilla or prior/before creators update, and use "StopUpdates10"... (edit: next year i maybe change computer, i will do this if m$ dont let us choice...)
nowadays, all antivirus/antimalwares have protection vs ransomware, zeroday', etc.
if u bored of windows, use linux ubuntu or steam os, and play all steam games with STEAM PLAY (beta).... and leave an install of win 7, 8, 10... for non steam games (like battlefield, fifa etc...)
i'm sure M$ wants to kill desktop mode so everybody do/use UWP only, like a smartphone....
win 11 will be uwp only, i bet...
Thanks

This sucks we need an option to turn this off!
it's not wireles... not a fix : we wait microsoft update fix... if that happens.
Complain daily. Complain loudly. Demand to be taken seriously.
Anything short of this will achieve absolutely nothing.
This link does contain the fix.
1.
Download the cab file "Microsoft - Game Devices, Other hardware - XBOX 360 Controller For Windows"
Last Updated "8/12/2009"
Size "2.5 MB"
from: https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=%20Microsoft%20-%20Game%20Devices%2C%20Other%20hardware%20-%20XBOX%20360%20Controller%20For%20Windows%20
2.
Use 7-Zip to extract the cab file.
This will result in a folder that contains:
- two folders "x64" & "x86"
- and three files: "INF Failures.txt", "xusb21.cat", & "xusb21.inf".
3.
Open "control panel" and search for and navigate to "device manager".
4.
In "device manager", if you have an Xinput controller plugged in, when you scroll down you will
eventually see "Xbox 360 Perphearals". Click it.
5.
Right click on "Xbox 360 Controller for Windows" and select "Update Driver Software".
6.
Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".
7.
Click on "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer".
8.
Click on "Have Disk..." in the lower right corner of the window.
9.
Click on "Browse..." and navigate into the extracted folder from earlier that contains the driver.
10.
Select the "xusb21.inf" file then click "Open".
11.
Click "OK".
12.
Click "Next" then the driver should install.
13.
You will be asked to "restart your computer".
Do it when you are ready so that the changes will go into effect.
14.
You should be all set. I really hope this works for anyone who finds this. Figuring this out has been a painful experience.
issue is fixed SINCE 2-3 YEARS with latest Controller Companion update since 2-3 YEARS.....
There are alternatives. As a lite solution steam itself can do some jobs, but rewasd does what CC always wanted to do, including hooking buttons to prevent Windows getting its greasy, sticky, half-rotten claws on them and making them scroll random windows or email your credit card details to Zimbabwe.
