I doubt team cherry just removed the backer's whole concept. I think they asked for a design more fit for hollow knight, and after a bit of questions, ended up with gorb.

Both are similar to worms in their full form, which we dont see.
The knight and batman?
A black cloak with powers? Often dismissed in VS scenarios because "Just a ___" despite actually beign pretty powerful? Orphans?
Hornet and John Wayne Gacy?
Clowns, kill children.
