The grubs aren't dead and the grubfather didn't eat them, rather this is a reference to actual metamorphosis in some bug where the larva burrow into the parent, feed on them, and emerge of their fully grown form in this case "grubberflies" (the achievement is literally called metamorphosis) so all of the grubs are fine and will soon move on. this does also mean that the grubfather will die, but as a stage of life.

He's fun to bounce on, and i always assume the worst when it comes to story/lore based things, like Quirrel's "Death". I just tend to like more depressing stories.
