Any tips for fighting the God Tamer?

I've defeated them in the trial of the fool, but don't even know how I did it and now need to fight them in the third pantheon and just keep dying.... Any advice? I've tried practicing the fight a lot but there's not much improvement.

• You don’t have to kill the rider. Once the beast is dead the rider stops fightig.
  
• If you stay in one of the top corners, the only attacks that can hit you are the rider jumping straight up from below you and the beast’s roll-bounce which is highly telegraphed. You can wait until it starts it’s roll and then jump off the wall, hit it a few times when it lands, and go back up a wall.
  
• The beast is only immune to nail damage when rolling, it will still take full damage from spells.

I do it by continuosly pogo-ing on the beast.
At the beginning, after the tamer lands, I double-jump and air dash to avoid the spits and get on top of the beast. Do the pogos. When the tamer jumps, I use jump to get out of the way and continue the pogo. They jump with the same timing so you can get a feel of when it's coming.
When the beast spins away, move somewhere away from the tamer and walk to avoid the beast landing on you.* Jump back on it and continue the pogo attacks etc.

* Not much movement is required really. You don't have to get away from the tamer if they aren't going to jump attack so it's not a big problem if cornered.

Just experimented and found you can walk through the beast at the beginning and be safely behind it to start the fight.
