Hollow Knight

Hollow Knight

Failed Champion? Easy (well, almost) [Spoilers]
Here is recipe:
  • It would be good to have max possible health and last nail upgrade. Arts, spells, soul vessels are not important.
  • Charm combination: Joni's Blessing + Lifeblood Heart + Stalwart Shell + Quick Slash (10 notches required).
Now, all you have to do is to hit him until he dead. The only exception is his rage mashing attack - just stand aside for this situations, and hit him with your Vengeful Spirit/Shade Soul for all Soul you have.

You should have enough health to survive constant hits (even with 2 hp damage attacks), Stalwart Shell will give you some safe time after taking damage, and using Quick Slash, you can use all this time to land hits on him. Having 9 base health (without charms; with charms it was like 16-17 health), and losing 2 blue health while getting to boss, I've ended up killing him, while still having 4 health.

Yes.
I guess I suck at Failed Champion because I'm just so bad at dodging. The farthest I went into fighting this boss was in phase 3.

nahnahnahnahnh heres the plan, get the nail that hits really fast and put on leg eaters gem the one that doubles daamge, cuz it won't break in the dream, then equip whatever else you want
So I am so confused. I can hear the sobbing and all that. The infection has overcome the crossroads. But when I get to the room. There are no ghosts, no nothing. Is there a prerequisite or am I doing something wrong? Is this a glitch?

That combo requires 11 notches.
So you need a coupl'a upgrades before seriously attempting this boss, huh? I have no upgrades and have been trying to kill this guy for days now. I thought I just sucked.
Nah, the second refights are basically massive upgrade/skill checks. Come back when you've got significantly more power and health. Basically Pure Nail, most of the charms, 10 charm notches, and at least 8 health to have the best chance. Also, you only need to beat 2 of the Dream Bosses, and about 6 of the Dream Warriors to fully awaken the Dream Nail, so you can skip the one Dream Boss you're having difficulty with.

Oh, and ha

I skipped Failed Champion, and beat Soul Tyrant and Lost Kin instead. Might go beat Failed anyway to get 2400 essence tho.

Also, you can technically equip charms beyond the limit, but you need to have at least 1 charm notch open to equip charms that cost more than one. Just try and equip it 5 times to "break" the charm notch limit. It comes with a pretty nasty penalty tho, you take double damage.
Well I finally beat him and the only thing I used for a boost was switching to a controller.
actuall nonsense, your combo requeres more than 10 to start with. (After making it fit I was over charmed, let me tell you.... this does not work hun. You take 4 dmg... each time)

My preferred setups:

Soul Tyrant - Shaman Stone + Spell Twister + Long Nail + Grub Song. Try to stay right on him and get single hits in. As soon as you Soul is full, unload on him with Shade Souls fired just high enough to hit him ground or in air.

Failled Champion - Quick Slash + Sharp Shadow + Steady Body + Dream Wielder. Stand right to him and just wail on him. Don't keep your distance. When he pulls back for an attack, Shadow Dash through him and keep attacking. If he jumps at you, dash under him. Just keep him near you and avoid the rocks. When his head pops out Dream Nail him and heal.

Lost Kin - Defender's Crest + Spoore Shroom are key. Other than that Quick Slash and Shaman Stone also helpful. Descending Dark works great against him. Or swap out the Shaman Stone for Fragile Strength.
BTW, it is entirely possible to reach 1800 with either just the Lost Kin, OR Sout Tyrant and Failled Champion both. You don't have to beat all three, or even 2 of them.

It's not a glitch. Climb up the outside far left wall and over the top of the arena. Where you hear the sobbing, break down a wall and he's in there. Dream Nail one of the living ones. "Brother.. HELP.. US.."Kinda feel bad for these guys.
You don't need a lot of health to beat Failed champion, hmm? How do you explain me, then? I've fought him at least 10 times, and I died EVERY time without even getting him like half-way dead! He's just too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fast! And those shockwaves, a double-jump needed to clear them, but your jumps are so damn slow you can't get enough altitude in time to clear them. I can't climb walls to avoid the shockwaves either, because you just get hit by the falling rocks.

I don't know how the hell to get through this.. and if I can't beat him, then clearly the other dream bosses I may as well not even attempt. I mean, Broken vessel slaughtered me at least -50 times- fighting him, no joke! So Lost Kin? Yeah.. good luck in HELL for me beating that. So I guess it just means that, unlike everyone else I'll never get to see the 'good' ending. What a waste of money.. buying a game that drew me in because it seemed like I could beat it. And then come across bullcrap like this. Screw it. Thanks Team Cherry, for beefing up my hopes and then UTTERLY DESTROYING THEM on the cold rocks below. I can't see how in the HELL anyone can clear steel soul mode.. the normal game is impossible enough!

You got gud once you finished normal mode.
I tried steel soul mode, and it only took me a lvl 2 nail and 6 charm notches to defeat Soul Tyrant and Lost Kin. And it didn't took me long to re-beat white palace.

Hey uh mate, I don't know if you noticed and no one seemed to point it out. Joni's Blessing = 4
Quick Slash = 3 Lifeblood = 2 Stalwart = 2. That's 11, not 10. You'd need an extra charm notch to pull off what you're talking about. Not really a problem, just wanted to point it out lmao. :ccskull:
