It's been speculated that the Godmaster ending is the most "canon" ending because it looks to be teasing the upcoming Hornet expansion.
And yes, because Absolute Radiance is completely and utterly destroyed in a more powerful and unconcealed form from what you see inside the Hollow Knight's (Pure Vessel's) mind, he is set free. He's what you see come out of the Egg and approach Hornet. Who knows whether he's sane or friendly, probably not considering Hornet's reaction.
As for whether the Knight is dead, don't think so but it also depends. He changes form, his full embodiment of the Void. He became some sort of horrible Void Beast. If you complete all the bosses in the Hall of Gods on Radiant, the statue for the Knight becomes that Void Beast, with the description ( and this goes in your Hunter's Journal as well ) something like " The Void, given focus. "
I said it depends though, because there are two versions of the Godmaster ending. If you don't give the Godseeker a Fragile White Flower, then it looks like the Void Beast breaks out from the Godseeker's mind and into the real world. If you gave her the Flower though, then it sort of just extinguishes everything; makes the Godseeker vanish, and with it, the Void Beast breaking through.
It isn't like she looks at him, he does something and then she becomes agressive.
