Stuck in the Ancient Basin
Hello all. I've come to the Ancint Basin in my game of HK, and I'm stuck. I don't have the crystal heart, so I can't get to the Broken Vessel. I don't have the Monarch Wings (duh) because you need to defeat the Vessel to get them. I can't get up into the room to the right of the main room filled with those little crawlers. I can't go down where the floor caves in, because I don't have whatever's needed to destroy it. I can't go back up the spike room (with the fallen elevator) because, again, no wings.

Does anyone know how I can get out of the Ancient Basin and continue my exploration?

You don't need double jump to get back to the City or Waterways from that room with the broken elevator. I agree that this vertical room may look a bit too complicated at first but the only thing you need there is just a few precision jumps to avoid spikes on your way back.

If you don't have the Crystal Heart, doesn't that mean you entered the Basin using the Tram Ticket? Or am I misremembering and you can get to Resting Grounds without the super dash?

You can take a path through Crystal Peak to a room where the floor immediately breaks and sends you to Resting Grounds.

I don't think there was a breakable floor there, just a big open pit? (in that dark area on the way to crystallized mound). But otherwise, yeah.

Alright, since there seems to be a lot of confusion here let me clear it up:
  • @Syllabilus: As Rut said, it is possible to climb back up to the City of Tears from Ancient Basin without double jump if you can get a few precise jumps off.
  • @4thQueen: Ancient Basin can be entered without the Tram Pass by entering the Royal Waterways with a Simple Key, beating Dung Defender, and falling down the broken elevator pit. Alternatively, you can enter the bottom half of Resting Grounds using super dash above Salubra's Shop to access the right half of City of Tears (but of course, that requires Crystal Heart). You cannot get to City of Tears from the top half of Resting Grounds until you've flipped the lever to open the passage under Xero's grave.
  • @fungusdude4: benjamincarylewis is correct in saying there is just a big open pit that allows you to drop into Resting Grounds from Crystal Peak. You're probably thinking of the breakable floor before the Moss Prophet in Fungal Wastes, which drops you into Deepnest.

sorry to resurrect this thread, but i am in a pickle. i was poking around in the waterways, probably an ill advised thing as i don't have many abilities yet. long story short i have found myself in the ancient basin. i've attempted the boss nearest the bench and would like to take a break. i realize that people say you can get out without the double jump in that vertical room with spikes. i have tried with little success. anyone know of a video that demonstrates how to get out without the double jump either in the vertical room or elsewhere?

Is the vertical room the broken elevator shaft?

yes, that's the place. the best i've done is rebounding off the first reachable wall to the right and getting enough vertical momentum that i'm even with the second available wall to the right (barely)but the few times i've managed that i haven't been able to be quick enough to press the directional stidk ro do a wall jump on it.

https://youtu.be/wWiyiN0ZYi4 I play with the DPad and not the analog stick. I'm not sure why people struggle with it (maybe playing with an analog stick sucks?).

omg you make it look so easy! thank you! i'm sure it will still be a struggle for me (kind of a noob at platforming) but at least i can see your technique. thanks again for posting that video. very much appreciated!

You either let go of -> for a split second or if you're high enough on the wall you can keep holding -> and still make it to the upper wall without issue.

I got out too, glad to say. Was about to send a screenshot, though video shows it much better. At first I was tempted to jump across instead of up and to the same side. What really makes it tough is the fact that you first have to get through the room with the pillars and spikes before you can even start this little bit of parkour. Glad you made it out :D

I can tell you that playing with the analog stick shouldn't be a problem at all, or so I've found. I find it easier than the pad.

You don't even have to walljump while passing the spikes actually. For those with input lag which makes this particular walljump difficult (I have low specs, so it is to be expected for me) you can simply pogo off of the lower right spike, then move left and pogo again off of the upper left spike, and then walljump after you are safely past them. You can pogo off of spikes even if you are not fully above them, as your nail hitbox extends off to the side as well.

I was going to suggest this as an alternative to walljumping there, but I was not entirely sure which room you were stuck in and a solution was already posted by the time I checked back.

Yes bouncing off the spikes is certainly a viable strategy, especially since the devs removed a ceiling spike on the right side which makes it pretty safe to do here.
