Possible Third Way to Enter City of Tears for the First Time?
I know for sure two different ways to first enter the City of Tears:
  • Use City Crest at the Fungal Wastes gate
  • Acquire Tram Pass in Deepnest and take the tram from Deepnest to Ancient Basin and climb up

Now I originally thought the Resting Grounds elevator could be accessible after falling down from Crystal Peak, but it turns out that the two ways to get to the lower part of Resting Grounds are blocked off (i.e. need Desolate Dive for the crypts entrance and the gate under Xero's grave can only be opened from the other side). But now that I think about it, you can use a combination of wall climb/super dash to get to Blue Lake from the path above Salubra's shop, and after super dashing across Blue Lake you're in the lower part of the Resting Grounds.

At that point, I think the only thing that would prevent access to City of Tears is if the elevator is closed (like the one in Forgotten Crossroads until you unlock it from City of Tears). Since you don't have to pay a fee for the Resting Grounds elevator, I'm guessing it should already be unlocked?

Can anyone confirm or refute this route as a way to get into the City for the first time?

Edit: Alright, just searched up the latest any% speedrun of this game and the speedrun does take this route into City of Tears (albeit with glitches to reach that ledge instead of wall jump/super dash). I guess that confirms it.

Does this works? It is glitchless and within the rules.

Alternatively, you can farm for Lantern, get Crystal Dash and use Crystal Dash instead for the same path,

You can't die in Steel Soul mode, so the method in the video only works in Normal Mode.

As for Lumafly Lantern -> Crystal Peak -> Crystal Heart (super dash), that has no such limitation. I actually implied this path in my edit to my opening post, although I just refer to using wall climb/super dash. You don't even really need to farm to get 1800 geo by the time you pick up Mantis Claw if you pick up every geo cache in each of the areas leading up to Mantis Claw.

Well then, you have your answers.
