Second Trigger for Crossroads Getting Infected?

In my current playthrough for Hollow Knight, the Crossroads have been infected without me killing a single Dreamer (which almost everyone says is the reason the Crossroads become infected). There must be a second trigger for initiating the Crossroads infection, so does anyone have any clue as to what it is?

Just putting it out there, but my personal guess is that it was me killing off Broken Vessel since that happened relatively close to when I went back and found out about the Crossroads.

There are like ten other threads on this same topic.

It's Broken Vessel. Defeating him triggers it. So does killing a Dreamer. Mystery continues to be solved.

People reported multiple triggers but we don't know them all yet. Some say they never killed Dreamer or got DJ at all but King's Brand instead

Wait, how do you even access King's Brand without double jump? Isn't the passage leading up to the bench and 2nd Hornet encounter not possible to wall-climb? (I guess you probably could get up there using glitches, but I can't think of an intended way to get there without double jump.)
