Steel Soul Mode Changes (Spoilers)
Hey there community. I have started my steel soul challenge and I was hoping to gather a list of changes and differences anyone has discovered just to share. So for starters, the first thing I have discovered is that this npc, whose name I forget is actually killed off by infection.

What other changes have you guys discovered or captured and can share?

I haven't started it myself - probably gonna hold off until they fix the framerate issues, since those got me killed quite a bit. However, all I've seen so far is the NPC you mentioned and Jiji, the guy in the cave in Dirtmouth, being replaced by a statue. Notably, both of those are related to the Shade mechanic, which doesn't exist in Steelsoul Mode, so that's probably why they replaced them. I seriously hope that's not all they did, though.

As far as I can tell, that is everything. I finished the mode 100% and didn't really notice anything else that changed. The only thing I haven't done is 100% hunter's journal, but I doubt that would amount to anything.

If that's truly it, that's super disappointing. I absolutely adore this game and it has a surprising amount of content anyway, but apart from the apparently still missing content, I feel like they oversold some aspects of the game (the claim of "over 30 epic boss battles" kinda rubs me the wrong way since it includes all the fairly simple warrior spirits, boss refights, and some fights that are more minibosses than anything else).

To be fair, I adore the refights. Overall though, I'm very happy with the amount of content in the game. As far as Steel Soul goes, yeah, it's a bit underwhelming. Personally, I would have preferred a 1HP mode with the base game's respawn mechanics or a proper hard mode. However, hard mode would require a lot more resources and it's understandable as their team is rather small.

Wait, so can you die in the Dream bosses, Lost Kin, Soul Tyrant, and Failed Champion and respawn? God, I'd hope so. I want to 100% Steel Soul mode, and that would seem like a ♥♥♥♥ move to make you not be able to die in those bosses, considering that, in the base game, you don't use shade. You just spawn right in front of the boss fight. :drizzle:

That is correct. Basically, any instance that doesn't produce a Shade in the regular mode won't count as a death in Steel Soul mode. So Dream boss refights are free rolls.

Please explain Arena mode.

Are you supposed to beat the Trial of Fools on the first try? It creates a shade.
Harpu Mar 13, 2017 @ 7:27pm
You would have to beat arena in 1 try. If Lag is a non issue for you, then the arena really isn't too bad. Do some practice runs or watch some success videos to get idea's. Personally I like a high power nail (just level 4 nail is fine) with fragile strength and then nailmasters charm for fast charged attacks. As well as fast attacking. The arena really isn't so bad.

Yeah, I found that Nailmaster's Charm was the ticket for the last "floor-less" wave before God Tamer.

I don't suppose Myla (the little miner girl) has any differences in Steelsoul mode? I just really want there to be a universe where she doesn't succumb to the infection :(

Hidden room in the Royal Waterways. In the normal game, he sells you an unlimited supply of rancid eggs.
