Unpopular opinion: deepnest is better than the royal waterways

I know it's just my personal opinion, but I can't stop thinking why people prefer the RW over deepnest. Deepnest's mobs are at least cute(in a way, compared to their real-life counterparts) and has that spooky atmosphere that is at least visible in other games. In contrast, the royal waterways just feels like you rubbed your face against one of those dirty public restrooms, along with the face that flukeflies are one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen, with those teeth and all.

Do you mean in terms of visuals or gameplay? Visually, I enjoy both, but I love the oppressive atmosphere of Deepnest so I'd go with that. Gameplay, I'm not sure. I love the concept of Deepnest but those big enemies with the masks (I forget their names) are annoying to fight. Meanwhile, Royal Waterways is less remarkable but has one of my favorite upgrades with Isma's Tear, and the Flukemons are fun to fight (I love the noises they make, too). The only thing I dislike about RW gameplay-wise is that the entrance to the White Defender has no way to know it's there, other than guesswork or looking up a guide (I looked it up).

I'd agree with you if it weren't for the spiders crawling across the screen on the foreground.
I am not scared of the enemies in deepnest, like you say they're cute. It's just the spiders in the foreground that trigger my arachnophobia and make me want to leave deepnest as soon as I'm there.

Nowadays I use a mod to remove them and then I like deepnest better than RW. In the end both is just because the devs were really good in creating atmospheres, they nailed it both times but that doesn't mean I like it, lol

Same, Deepnest is a big contrast compared to the surrounding regions like Queen's Gardens and Fungal Wastes. To be honest the visuals of the background and enemies really fit what the devs were going for, and I appreciate that. It's just that to me the flukes are peak gross vibes, and I don't know what kind of hell you went through to think that they and their sounds are cute.

yeah, that also internally freaked me out when I first saw it lmao
I should also use mods why haven't I thought of that before?

I haven’t tried either… Actually, I’ve no idea what RW even is. I ended up here ‘cause I stumbled into Deepnest by accident – just kinda found myself there. Started hearing those creepy bugs, then saw them rolling around in that spiky armour and I was like… NOPE!

I only got the suspiciously cheap map and ran away! :D

Deepnest is nice and spooky, Royal Waterways is just gross.
Also play Rain World it's great lol.
