Changed computers and lost my save
I was under the impression that the save was stored in the steam cloud since the game saves data automatically but know im not so sure can´t seem to find my previous save anywere the game behaves like it never existed

Nope, steam cloud doesn't do anything, the save files for hollow knight are located in C:\Users\%UserProfile%\AppData\LocalLow\Team Cherry\Hollow Knight the save files are the user#.dat and if you feel like it you can copy the .bak files too. After that simply transfer the files over via usb drive, or if you don't have one (which you definitely should, cause you could use your phone charger for it) you can put it in a zipped folder and download that using google drive or something else.

Guess im ♥♥♥♥♥♥ then because i don´t have my old pc with the hollow knight save anymore

well thanks i just wanted clarification on that because they claim they save your data on steam cloud which was really dissapointing

Well in that case i don't think there is any other way to get your save files back, besides i wouldn't worry about it too much, you'll wind up playing through the game a couple more times even after you beat it.

On most games it should work but hollow knight has it's saves separately, it doesn't rely on steam cloud. I don't really know how to explain it, nor do i understand it completely myself.

Do you remember what did you complete? You can use an editor to "make" your save game more or less.

The game uploads your save files to Steam Cloud, if you have Steam Cloud enabled for Hollow Knight. Here you can check what saves are stored for Hollow Knight in your Steam Cloud:
https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorageapp/?appid=367520
If there are any saves, you can download them.

If you switched platforms, for example from Mac OS to Windows, then your saves won't get automatically synchronized (but they still are uploaded to the Cloud so you can download them manually). They are auto-synchronized only on the same platform (Windows to Windows etc.).

Generally using Steam Cloud as our only backup source is not recommended even by Steam.

While I generally don't use steam cloud, it works for hollow knight for sure. I threw together a frankenstein pc of old parts last month, after getting windows installed, steam and a few games, old hollow knight saves popped right up.

What is your setting in Steam > Settings > Cloud > Enable cloud synchronization for games which support it?

You can try basic Steam Cloud Troubleshooting for example:

Yup, that was on by default, i haven't changed it. I can try to troubleshoot but i don't think it's that big of a deal, i don't mind losing my saves and either way i have them backed up. I'll try to look into it as it might cause some issues with other games. Thanks for the help.

Steam cloud isn't save backup by any means, I accidentally removed my install folder, then reinstalled and started new game and 'old' saves where gone from the cloud, only new one was there, beware)
