If you're on a different LAN to them for HKMP then it's a little bit more complicated. I found the instructions on the HKMP Github page a bit confusing so here's my own little explanation:
1) Check your router's IP address
2) Type the IP into google and login to your router (If you or anyone else has never done this, the details should be on your router.)
3) Find "Port Forwarding" or "Virtual Server" (Mine is under WAN)
4) Enable it and create a Forwarding Profile.
- You can use anything for the Service name
- You can use almost any 1-5 digit number for the External and Internal ports (same
number)
- If you know your PC's IP, type it into "Internal IP Address". If you don't, there may be a
drop down list to pick your PC's name from and autofill the IP. If you don't know it, type
ipconfig into your terminal/powershell/console and it will be under IPv4.
5) Click the "Reboot" button or reboot your router manually.
6) Read off the WAN IP from the router website (you will give this to your friends to put into HK.)
7) Open the HK save file you want to play in and press "esc". On the right of the menu will be a new multiplayer menu.
- Put your PC's IPv4 address into the first box
- Put your 1-5 digit number from step 4) into the second box.
- Put a username into the third box
- Go down to Host Settings if you want to mess with the game settings
- Press Host Server
8) Your friends will need to download HKMP as well.
9) They will not need to do steps 1-7) as that is for the sever Host. They will need to input the IP from step 6) into their first box, the 1-5 digit number from step 4) into their second box, pick a username, and then click connect to server (under the join section).
9) You should be able to play together. :)
