Cornifer's Maps Don't Show Up In Store! T_T Help!
So I've recently picked the game back up and was wondering if there was something I've missed, or if its a bug. Every time I meet Cornifer at a new location, I would purchase his map.

However, there are two or three locations so far, one of them being Fog Canyon, where I did not meet him at all (i looked) and instead found his shining note saying that "the map is now available for purchase at a discounted price" in Dirtmouth. But every single time I travel back to the store and talk to his wife, she tells me I've bought everything and "no doubt Cornifer would be pleased" !

The maps for areas in which I did not meet Cornifer aren't available for purchase T_T I want my maps! help!

Are you sure you don't have the map already? Also, Fog Canyon is an interesting case specifically. Can you tell us which parts of the map you have and the last new area you discovered? (Or better yet, a screenshot of your world map.)

Which areas did you find a note in, without being able to buy that area's map at the shop?
Normally, it should work like this :
Cornifer is in an area, and until he leaves you can buy a map from him after reaching him. He will leave an area once certain requirements are met, leaving a note behind (Cornifer leaves a note behind regardless of whether you bought that area's map or not).
If you haven't bought an area's map before he leaves said area, you'll have to buy it from the Dirtmouth shop.
If you find a note in an area, it means that specific area's map is now available at the store, unless you already bought it.

If you did find a note in some area but didn't have that map and wasn't able to buy that area's map at the shop, then you've encountered a bug, and i'd recommend verifying the integrity of game files.

Select Hollow Knight in Steam library, then click Manage > Properties... > Local Files
Click the "Verify integrity of game files..." button and wait for the process to complete.
Repeat a second time if necessary.

I am absolutely sure! I've gone back to his shop in Dirtmouth multiple times wondering if I have to wait for him to go back and deliver the maps to his wife! I haven't opened the game again since posting (but will after this), but afair its Fog Canyon, Queen's Gardens, and one more which I can't quite remember the name of..

Ah so its a bug! T_T Alright, I've just done that.. It said "All files verified" and I don't think it downloaded any extra files. Now to try launching the game. So technically verifying the files *should* allow the maps to appear in store now? Any idea what I should try next if it still doesn't work?

Update to above: Maps I haven't purchased from Cornifer still don't appear in his shop )):

Just to make sure, can you confirm you found Cornifer's note in both of these areas?

I'm not sure what the trigger for Cornifer leaving Queen's Gardens (only) is, or if there even is one (for for QG specifically), so i'm thinking you maybe just never found him?

The triggers are normally bosses iirc, or grabbing a power up like Claw in Fungal Wastes, and QA only has one boss. If you haven't beaten them then there's your reason. As for not finding Cornifer, he's near the entrance and by a bench, shouldn't be a long trip from the stag station.

Yup, can confirm I've found his notes. I buy maps directly from Cornifer each time other than in locations I've mentioned, since he wasn't even there in person from the moment I started exploring when it was a new area, only found his shining note.

OK, so Queens Gardens and Fog Canyon. Those areas take the old Metroidvania trope of having the boundaries of areas blend into each other to a new level. Can you tell us what abilities you have and whether you beat the game? If you've beaten the game, which endings have you seen?

@ATalksToSelf: Not every area is about defeating a boss. I believe Fungal Wastes has all triggers connected to getting Mantis Claw for example. And in Kingdom's Edge, I think it's all the Dreamer encounters being... completed. Possibly not even that. There's a good chance Queen's Gardens isn't as simple as defeating Traitor Lord.

This sounds to me like a very rare glitch in the game. Sometimes such things may randomly happen to save files, but they are incredibly rare. If you like, you can edit your save file to give yourself the missing maps.

Save Editor: https://bloodorca.github.io/hollow/

1. Create save backups.
2. Open your save file in the editor.
3. Find these lines (using Ctrl + F) and change them from false to true, like this:
"mapFogCanyon": true, "mapRoyalGardens": true,

Strange. Could you take a screenshot of your map and post it here? It might prove extremely useful.
Have you used any mods, by the way?

I say that i have no idea what the trigger is because i once tried to do everything i could without Claw in QG to get Cornifer to leave, including defeating all bosses and getting every unique item.

That probably shouldn't be relevant, since the trigger for Cornifer leaving all areas unconditionally is for doing something required to reach any ending. (exceptfor the EtV ending, but... you know. Who would do that on their first playthrough?

True, but my point was it was either an important boss (so something like Gruz Mother wouldn't trigger one of these) or an item needed for progression, and QG only has one of each which are locked behind the same gate. I also stated this was "iirc/if I remember correctly" so I'm probably dead wrong. You mentioned Edge possibly being connected to the Dreamers, maybe QG's is linked to White Palace somehow?

Dreamers are the big trigger for Cornifer to leave all areas, it isn't specific to Edge.

Ah, good to know.

I'm aware the game endings are not relevant in and of themselves. I asked that because I wanted to check in a spoiler-free way if they had done certain things yet.

I need to use this method it seems as I have the same glitch as maps have never showed in the shop for me, and the resting grounds map is the one I need to buy as there was a note left straight away. Could you elaborate on how to do this. Which "save file" do I need to open in the editor? Not sure which file to select from the program files.
