Normally, it should work like this :
Cornifer is in an area, and until he leaves you can buy a map from him after reaching him. He will leave an area once certain requirements are met, leaving a note behind (Cornifer leaves a note behind regardless of whether you bought that area's map or not).
If you haven't bought an area's map before he leaves said area, you'll have to buy it from the Dirtmouth shop.
If you find a note in an area, it means that specific area's map is now available at the store, unless you already bought it.
If you did find a note in some area but didn't have that map and wasn't able to buy that area's map at the shop, then you've encountered a bug, and i'd recommend verifying the integrity of game files.
I am absolutely sure! I've gone back to his shop in Dirtmouth multiple times wondering if I have to wait for him to go back and deliver the maps to his wife! I haven't opened the game again since posting (but will after this), but afair its Fog Canyon, Queen's Gardens, and one more which I can't quite remember the name of..
Ah so its a bug! T_T Alright, I've just done that.. It said "All files verified" and I don't think it downloaded any extra files. Now to try launching the game. So technically verifying the files *should* allow the maps to appear in store now? Any idea what I should try next if it still doesn't work?
Update to above: Maps I haven't purchased from Cornifer still don't appear in his shop )):
I'm not sure what the trigger for Cornifer leaving Queen's Gardens (only) is, or if there even is one (for for QG specifically), so i'm thinking you maybe just never found him?
@ATalksToSelf: Not every area is about defeating a boss. I believe Fungal Wastes has all triggers connected to getting Mantis Claw for example. And in Kingdom's Edge, I think it's all the Dreamer encounters being... completed. Possibly not even that. There's a good chance Queen's Gardens isn't as simple as defeating Traitor Lord.
Save Editor: https://bloodorca.github.io/hollow/
1. Create save backups.
2. Open your save file in the editor.
3. Find these lines (using Ctrl + F) and change them from false to true, like this:
Have you used any mods, by the way?
I say that i have no idea what the trigger is because i once tried to do everything i could without Claw in QG to get Cornifer to leave, including defeating all bosses and getting every unique item.
That probably shouldn't be relevant, since the trigger for Cornifer leaving all areas unconditionally is for doing something required to reach any ending. (exceptfor the EtV ending, but... you know. Who would do that on their first playthrough?
True, but my point was it was either an important boss (so something like Gruz Mother wouldn't trigger one of these) or an item needed for progression, and QG only has one of each which are locked behind the same gate. I also stated this was "iirc/if I remember correctly" so I'm probably dead wrong. You mentioned Edge possibly being connected to the Dreamers, maybe QG's is linked to White Palace somehow?
I need to use this method it seems as I have the same glitch as maps have never showed in the shop for me, and the resting grounds map is the one I need to buy as there was a note left straight away. Could you elaborate on how to do this. Which "save file" do I need to open in the editor? Not sure which file to select from the program files.
