Does anything change if you beat Zote before rescuing Bretta?

This is something I'm curious about, since I always tend to do all I can do with new abilities before moving on to newer areas. In all 3 of my playthroughs I've always rescued Bretta before beating Zote in the Colosseum. Does she just never fall in love with you and her room is already Zote themed? Or is Zote programmed not to show up right away so she gets that period of affection for you?

If you beat Zote The Mighty first, then rescue Bretta, her room will be filled with Zote memorabilia (and so you skip the stage where she's a Knight fangirl), but there'll still be a mask shard waiting for you regardless.
