I wouldn't mind even going back through the area once, but if I had interest, you know.
If I was waiting to meet the boss.
And now I have a feeling that bosses are regular mobs, who have 10 times more HP, that's all.
"I'll come to the boss, kill him in a minute and run around the screens again."
I came to Hollow knight from metroidvanias, where bosses are BOSSES, where battles are hard, where you can catch not 5+ hits, but only 1-2.
what? you spend GEO on upgrades for your weapon, new Badge slots, maps, map accessories, Keys, ect ect. theres a lot of things you use Geo on in this game
and above i gave you an example of a metroidvania that, like metroivanias tend to do, include backtracking to open up new areas, once you receive new tools. Often traversal tools.
okay. and....? Hollow Knight isnt like that. thats not exactly standard for metroidvanias. and if backtracking to open new areas isnt for you, again, this game isnt for youi.
thats nice. for that game.
linking that again is irrelevant.
then play Steel Soul. theres always ways to amp up the difficulty. but only if you actually want more difficulty, not to complain about the lack of it.
you can spend geo in Sly, Salubra, and Leg Eater's shops to obtain various upgrades and keys. you will need to find Sly in the Forgotten Crossroads before his shop will reopen in Dirtmouth. Salubra's shop can be tricky to get to without a specific upgrade, but it can be done.
the Nailsmith will take a fee to upgrade your nail and reduce the number of hits needed to kill enemies, which will get harder as the game progresses. you can find him at the bottom left corner of the map in the City of Tears.
and yes, there are difficult bosses, but it sounds like you haven't encountered many yet because you're missing the upgrades and keys needed to unlock new areas.
To explain it simply, i would have thought i would hate the backtracking. I did not. The game feels natural. The "going forward" makes me not want to play this game. Because a good metroidvania has non-linear exploration. Hollow knight's bosses difficulty dont come from just increasing damage and thats it. The difficulty comes from dodging.
The hardest boss in the game deals 2 damage while you have 9 hp. Sounds easy, but its still hard, because the difficulty isnt the enemy dealing 20 million damage, its you training.
there's also all the Radiant bosses in Godhome which will actually kill you in one hit. if there's one thing Hollow Knight isn't, it's lacking in challenging boss fights.
You honestly don't need any mods. It's completely normal to get into the same room for a few times, and it's useful because after a while you start to learn where to go and how the map is formed. If you don't like exploring, just play another game
A couple of hints to go straight to the upgrades I mention, find the place with mushrooms Fungal Wastes, then find the mantises, you'll get an upgrade Mantis Claw there, defeat their boss Mantis Lords, there you'll get access to the spiders Deepnest, find the pass, travel the tram.
Another interesting upgrade is in the crystal area Crystal Peak, but you'd better visit the mantises first to get Mantis Claw in order to get the other upgrade Crystal Heart. I'm not sure if you need it, but I'd hate to send you to a place you cannot access. If you already have Mothwing Cloack as you mentioned, with Mantis Claw should be enough to get Crystal Heart.
And the last mobility upgrade Monarch Wings if I'm not wrong is accessible after getting the tram pass. There is a place where you fall through a pit Ancient Basin, and you'll find a boss Broken Vessel. After that boss, you can get the upgrade. You'll need to visit the crystal place before this, or at least to find the boss.
There are other upgrades Shade Cloak and Isma's Tear, but the first one it's only needed in order to cross certain barriers (you'll know when you find them) and the second one is kinda useful to get some shortcuts. The first one is too late game, not important right now. And to ghet the second one first you need to find a place full of crap Royal Waterways where you'll find a very friendly boss Dung Defender you'll need to fight first. In this case, you need the upgrade from the place with the crystals first.
Keep always some geo to unlock Stag Sations. Those are the "teleports" in this game.
Don't know if you noticed, but just in case you didn't, you can pogo on enemies, and some spikes and stuff, and pogoing itself it's a sort of shortcut at first when you lack other tools to move.
And don't forget to pay attention to the walls to find the breakable ones. There are many of them opening shortcuts.
That's all I can think of to travel fast through the map.
I'm leaning SAM though, since you have all the mask shards without having done the flower quest, something I wouldn't expect someone SAM'ing achievements willy-nilly to know. Either that or you modded in max masks and that triggers the achievement somehow.
so true
I wondered the same. He clearly mods the s*** out of everything he plays. Especially since he considers basic things like "killing enemies" as a flaw that needs to be modded away. It's debatable whether he likes this genre at all.
