Any tips for Godtamer

I feel like such a noob asking this, lol.
So I've just completed the first 2 pantheons (yay) and started the third. However I really struggle with the God tamer. Tried the third pantheon once, died by the God tamer and went to the hall of gods to practice. I've looked up strats online but they all say it should be very easy, with pogoing on top of the Beast until it dies. I just keep ketting hit and while I managed to beat him in the hall of the gods a few times I always end up with having only 1 or 2 masks left... But I looked it up and after him is the Grimm which I also struggle with so I need more health than that, preferably all my masks.

Other than pogoing on top of him and cheesing him with minions I haven't found actual strats that may work better for me. So if anyone has advice other than git gud or cheese it then I'd be very grateful.

The charms I use are grubsong, longnail, unbreakable strength, soul twister and shaman stone.

the best strategy is pogoing. However, when you see him rolling, shade dash away, and keep pogoing him. Otherwise, just practice, the main change would be get mark of pride, and quickslash, theyre amazing charms in general.

Stay far away from them and let them come at you. That way, you'll be able to have an easier time observing and dodging their attacks.

Focus on the beast. When he's doing the jumping slash or is rolling at you, dodge/use sharp shadow then punish.

You can heal if needed or attack during the acidic volley. If you need souls, pogo on the tamer. Don't forget that you can alternatively use the wall as a safe spot from time to time.

I personally never used long nail. Maybe you can try out this charm build : Unbreakable strength and heart/quick focus/grubsong.

Thank you both! With your advice in mind I started practicing and I found out what I did wrong when pogoing. Because his other attacks change his hitbox and position, I often missed him and ended up on the ground, making me vulnerable to both his and the tamers attacks. However doing a double jump every pogo worked, even though I still lose more health than I care to admit haha. But since I get a lot of Soul and there's much time to heal in between this fight and Grimm I have full health. And I found out Grimm was not as hard as I remember, starting to like him even, who would've guessed that lol.

So thanks to your advice I can continue with this pantheon. Now Uumuu ♥♥♥♥♥ me up haha, while I managed to beat her everytime I end up with little health. I already got to Sly so need to practice him and Uumuu. I never thought I'd be able to do these pantheons so really glad I got so far already, anything else is a bonus

(And I didn't fight Zote in Bretta's basement, I don't want to imagine how hard this pantheon would be with him in it. Really hate that guy, lol)

No problem. The tips that recommend pogoing usually need mark of pride, since its AMAZING for pogoing. For example, purevessel has a slash that is best dodged by jump and pogo, but without mark of pride you mostly fall. Thats why i still highly recommend mark of pride, its very useful against many bosses, due to pogoing.

Ohh yeah I get it! Would you recommend MOP + longnail or just MOP? The reason I try to use MOP less is because I noticed I got too used to it combined with longnail.
This would not be a bit issue except for the Speedrun achievement, took a break from that one but I am 4 hours in and struggle with the hollow knight due to that and no shadow dash. That's why I made another safe file trying to do the game without it, and I guess it kinda stuck

id generally recommend mark of pride only. My fave charm setup is
Mark of pride
Qslash
Strength
Stable body
Nailmaster gory
Other than the obvious, stable body is amazing, but you need to get used to it, and nailmaster glory. Nail arts are really good, but its kinda hard to understand when to use them, so you could replace it for grubsong.
Longnail isnt really worth 2 charm notches, and i only use it when overcharmed.

I like to cling to the walls until i see the rolling ball creature roll into a ball, then i wait until hes almost at the wall and then i dash. also, if you kill the ball creature first, the tamer will die as well. basically, my personal strat is to stay on the walls.

Thank you both again so much. I just finished P3, really think Godtamer is one of the worst bosses lol. Not as bad as the awful terrible worthless bastard Zote though, so thankful I didn't beat him

I'm planning on fighting Nightmare King, Radiance, Zote - on a different safe file, try to finish my Speedrun under 5 hours, and maybe even try steel heart first, I honestly think that will be easier for me than P5, lol. Also currently starting with POP, the White palace was really hard the first time but now I breezed through it so hopefully POP will be doable now

Good luck. my first ending was godhome, but it probably was a bad idea, since the pantheons were a huge difficulty spike, altough p5 itself took me just 6 tries since i trained. Also, i love PoP.

my way is to use desolate dive and shade cloak as much as possible, so you can be invincible while they attack you.
