Can't Find Shade

I got killed by one of the three ghosts past the red door in the Resting Grounds, but my shade hasn't spawned there. Is it somewhere else or is this a glitch?

I can't think of a door that's red there, or a place with exactly 3 ghosts. Were you attacking the ghosts in the upper right memorial area next to the seer? There's not really a reason to do that (unless you really really want to). Your Shade is probably going to be found deeper into that room if you only saw 3 ghosts. It's a big place.

Yes, right there. I didn't mean to attack them, I got curious as to what would happen if I hit one with the dream nail and... well, I'm sure you know what happened next. I feel like a horrible person for doing it now.

Hey, don't feel bad. The game doesn't explicitly say not to do that, after all. I just was pointing that out because some people think there's a reward. Even if you're really absorbed in the story implications, there are people who argue both that it's a good thing and that it's a bad thing. Depends on your personal interpretation.

But if you want to avoid wasting time (and possibly dying), it's probably best to only dream nail spirits who challenge you to a fight themselves, first.

The shade won't always be near the same place one dies. The shade location on the map is just a general location for the whole room (it doesn't work like Wayward Compass).

If you still can't find the shade in the whole room, it might be a bug. If so, there is an NPC in Dirtmouth who can help you with it.
