Mantis Village Gate - Help

Hello Community,

My brother has been playing Hollow Knight, and while on Mantis Village, an enemy has hit the lever and closed the gate while he was on the other side of it. He claims that he cannot go back.

Is this a bug or a puzzle that need to be solved?

You need to do something elsewhere first. They won't let you in there if you haven't (very minor story progression spoiler)earned their respect.

Wait, he managed to get past the gate before the mantis closed it? And now he is trapped inside the room? (I'm not sure if I understand correctly)

He was outside, I don't know if he managed to get inside before the Mantis closed it

I'm sure he's outside, I don't think I've heard of anybody getting in there early. (If you do somehow go in there early though, you can just hit the switch yourself to get out.)

Since it could be a specially-made switch, there's no guarantee it works like a regular switch.

I thought I'd tried it after getting in the normal way before. Can anyone test this right now?

Also, as long as a person doesn't use the bench inside, they can just quit to their last bench.

That said, I'd be really surprised if they actually got in there early. I'd love to hear if it's somehow not the normal progression of the game that happened here.
