Is there a new game plus mode?
What characteristics does it have?
Do you start with the items from the finished game?

Anyway, from a quick search, it looks like Hollow Knight doesn't have New Game+. It does have Steel Soul Mode, which is roughly the same as a normal game, except if you die once, you're permanently killed and have to start over. It doesn't sound like something I'd ever play :).

There is no new game plus. It was requested many times but never added.Start a new game and take a different route.

New Game Plus in a Metroidvania? Seems like that would kinda defeat the purpose.

In any case, no, there's not one.

New Game+ for a metroidvania actually sounds like it has some pretty great potential, in my opinion. Imagine if they were to go all-out with and introduced brand new gameplay changes, like rearranged enemy placements or even new, NG+ exclusive creatures. I love that sort of thing in games that do it, which sadly aren’t that common.

I suspect that Silk Soul mode in Silksong will probably be more in line with a New Game+ sort of feature, because they did say they wanted to “do more” with it, compared to what Steel Soul was in Hollow Knight. Hopefully we’ll see some changes along those lines with it, if that is the case.

Strongly disagree. Especially with the NG+ exclusive stuff. Imho that is always bad and just annoying. For me personally unlocking abilities and items is one of the best parts of progressing through the game, especially in a metroidvania (it's actually pretty much part of the genre's definition), so a second playthrough, where you have everything unlocked from the start just seems bland. And adding abilities/items/bosses, that only appear in NG+ just screams "We ran out of creativity to think of more story, but we want to pad the playtime".

So having any content locked behind an NG+ does not look appealing. If they would add an NG+ where you can just mow through the game with everything unlocked if you feel like it, then fine (as long as there is no achievement tied to it), but please for the love of god, don't lock stuff behind a second playthrough...

Well, and I never really tried out the Hall of the Gods, but as I understand, it basically lets you replay any boss you want, plus several boss rushes. I really wish more games had that feature. To name one example, I left Dark Souls 3 aching to fight some of those bosses a third time, but I was just so damn sick of the levels.

Personally, for the main game of Hollow Knight, I'm having a blast replaying it after 5 years. It's been long enough that I'm having to rediscover a ton of stuff I'd forgotten, even if there's a spark of remembrance afterwards. Doing an NG+, especially right after my first playthrough, would have felt too rote and familiar. Though as others have said, it wouldn't hurt me if the option existed and I just didn't use it.

Yeah, ability acquisition is the name of the game. If you had everything available from the start, you could just go straight to City of Tears, take out the sleepers and finish the game. The only real advantage would be resurrecting the bosses, which you can do with godhome anyway, and replaying the cutscenes, which you can do with a normal New Game.

I do kinda like the idea of relocating stuff for a second playthrough, though. Maybe not for a typical NG+ mode, but maybe call it something like Remix mode, and move everything around while keeping the level design the same, so you'd have to use sequence break-like techniques to get stuff. Could be cool. I don't think HK was really designed for that though.
