What is the HORNET?

I use Chinese and it show me that the lovely lady's name is "大黄蜂". But she can't be a hornet or any thing look like a bee. A bee or not a bee, that is a question.

May be she is the one who has horns and live one the net? It seem that her mother is the HERRAH in the BEAST'S DEN. HERRAH has horns as seem as HORNET's but she has many legs. I think that HERRAH is a spider queen so that HORNET could be a spider?! But she can't be a spider either. She does not look like a spider. I think the spiders in the game is ugly and troublesome, but HORNET is comely and thoughtful.

HORNET has never been on the spider web, she just use a needle and thread as weapon. But she has a mother just like a spider...

So, there was much curiosity about what kind of insects the HORNET was.

She is a Spider. But that's kind of spoilers. Herrah is her mother and the Pale King is her father. That's why she doesn't look completely like a spider. And her thread I believe is her web. In the Silksong trailer we see that Hornet can crawl on all four when walking backwards, making her a lot more spider like.
Though I understand your confusion.

Originally 'The Hive' was supposed to be next to 'Deep Nest'. Hornet was the 'Child of Three Queens', born to Herrah, raised by the White Lady and trained under and named by Hive Queen Vespa (Wiki for more info[hollowknight.fandom.com]). We don't know if this is still true for the current state of the game however.
