Do not try to chase Hornet when fighting her. Her lunges will bring her to you. Dodge the lunge, then hit her. If she throws the needle, jump over it twice (throw and return), then hit her. Only try to hit her in between if you were already close.
This game will punish you if you charge in and try to attack too many times. Some bosses require you to react more than others. Some will go down if you're bold and charge in, but many won't.
After looking at the Internet, I found the same comments than you, like "hoho, if you strugle at that trivial boss, this game is not for you!" But I finalt managed to overcome it, and even finish the fight full life, by focus on reading his attacks and dodging her, whit only "safe" hits, and healing when the "opportunity windows" opens
Hornet was so sool, and his voice so entertaining I could not help and must fight :p
Spent 2 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hours trying to find the ♥♥♥♥ with no map, then another hour listening to her keep shout "sharp, sharp, sharp". And best of all, it's not her attacks that are killing me, it's the unpredictable movement inbetween where she just randomly jumps to my possition for no reason.
Bollocks to that, I'll play a proper game like DS.
Hornet on the otherhand is designed to teach you proper timing, patern recognition and so on to prepare you for the actual difficult bosses in the game. If you're new simply stick to the ground, if you try and attack her in the air she's going to punish you. Wait for her needle throw or her dash attack and get some hits in when she misses. Timing and patience is what the fight tries to teach you because you need timing and patience for a lot of bosses in HK.
As far as hits go you can stagger her after 6 hits in rapid succession in her first phase and 5 hits every time after that. Essentially you can stun lock her. Stick with it, push through it and you'll get through that fight easily in the future.
