I defeated him without taking a hit (radiant version) using grubberfly's elegy, it was really easy since you attack him from far away and you have more time to react. If you are not fighting the radiant version, you can use a lifebloom charm to have extra blue health that allows you to take some hits and still use grubberfly's elegy wave.
If you prefer not to use grubberfly's elegy (for example, in the pantheons), go for a nail build (quick slash, mark of pride, fragile/unbreakable strength + whatever you find useful, like sharp shadow or Grimmchild). Beside that, just learn to read his attack. The only true dangerous one is when he charges you (he opens his eyes wide just before), and in that case just time your dash through him.
E: Fragile Strength/Heart too because it's a dream boss.
He can't reach you, and the pets do the rest.
