Controller suddenly worked, and then suddenly didn't work mid-game...

This is weird and frustrating. I've only had controller issues with one other game, Elden Ring, but that was quickly fixed in patch after PC release.

I initially booted Hollow Knight, controller didn't work, went to google, tried the steam controller preferences, the big picture mode, etc. and nothing worked. My computer did an automatic update last night, rebooted, and I thought I would try loading Hollow Knight again for fun and suddenly the controller was working! 46 minutes into the game, the controller became unresponsive in a moment of dialogue, and I couldn't even get it to do anything with keyboard inputs. I was forced to alt-F4, and the controller has gone back to being non-functional in this game, even after rebooting.

It's a model 1914 xbox wireless controller hooked up via bluetooth. Works in EVERY other game except for Hollow Knight. Is there a solid fix for this problem?

Thanks, but i've tried all of that. I have no explanation why it decided to work after a reboot, and then stop working mid-game. I'll probably be returning the game.

Well, I remembered I had a wired controller, and plugged that in. Worked great! played about 4 hours yesterday, but today the wired controller stopped working. I eventually figured out that it was because I also have some flight sim pedals plugged in. Come on, Team Cherry. No other game I own has a problem with this. Stupid.
