I get where you're coming from. For a long time it was either MoP or no extra nail range for me. However my reasoning for Long Nail of all charms goes as such; Stalwart Shell is pretty damn good, but not my type, Soul Catcher is a no as I already have a lot of ways to get soul, Dash Master could be probably a great alternative for maximum speed, Fragile/Unbreakable heart could also give a bit more survivablility, Fragile/Unbreakable Greed is obvious why not, I didn't use spells often enough to say yes to Spell Twister, who actually uses Heavy Blow, I just like having that little bit to just kill that flying enemy from a bit further away+easier pogoing, how often is Fury of the Fallen actually going to be usefull in a place like that, I just don't like Baldur Shell, Flukenest now costs 3 so nope, I'd rather not have my soul be passivly taken by Glowing Womb, Lifeblood Heart is also not great in the colloseum, I like Sharp Shadow so maybe that, I don't see many times thinking that being able to move while healing being very helpful although Shape of Unn is a great charm, I don't swing often so Steady Body won't be that useful to me, why do you have Wayward Compass or Gathering Swarm, I don't think Dreamweilder is that good(but please educat me if I'm wrong) but the rest of the 1 cost charms are good to use. (I'd probably use Defender's Crest and Spore Shroom) What I'm trying to say is that while Long Nail is an odd choice, I flet like it would give me the biggest fundemental advantage with the rest of the charms in mind. Besides, that charm was more like a small bonus to me than a big part of my setup.
I learned spawn locations and timing. Forced myself to get each wave down. The air segment was the worst for me, once I got through it, I beat it.
Stalwart shell is to give you a spam window to hammer the attack button after you get hit.
All told, it took me many hours, but I was so pumped when I cleared it.
Whenever there is a Shielded Fool or Garpede walking vertically you can easily heal yourself to the max and fill all 198 points of soul. And there are few waves where they appear. Shielded Fool is ridiculously effortless to hit with Dream Nail and is best served as last enemy of a particular wawe. Dream Wielder allows you to steal soul from Garpedes up to 2 hits per Garpede if timed correctly. Also you can heal once (or maybe even twice with Quickfocus) per opening in their wave.
Quick note:
If Heavy Blow was lowered to one notch than I would probably start using since it's quite fun in nonserious gameplay. Even if we all anonymously and unambiguously agree that it's a joke.
For my part, for a while I had trouble with it. After a lot of trial and error, it's mostly a cake walk (and usually my losses are my own fault).
