(Light spoiler) Armoured ball after first boss

I just defeated False Knight and there was a large, armoured ball rolling at me after he died. I hit it, because I was scared and it rolled away off screen. The Wiki says this was the head of his mace. Has it now gone forever? As I see hitting it with a different weapon can yield a different result?

It is nothing, just the top of his hammer you can't do anything to it

Nah, it's unimportant. If you hit it with one other weapon though, it gives the dialogue: ''Free at last!". That's all.
