Crystal Peaks, lost 2k geo. Can't get my soul back

The laser / conveyor belt part. The soul is somewhere but not where it says it is. Also I can't beat this. I've spent an hour trying. I'm furious. Now what?

Oh man all I had to do was die someplace else. I'm still stuck. I got the earth smash move but I don't know where else to use it. I also can't beat the 3rd ghost boss the one that smashes pillars down at the ground. Other than that I dunno where to go now.

If you use a simple key on the door outside of dirtmouth, you meet an npc who will draw in your shade from wherever it is on the map in exchange for a rancid egg.
