Save File Transfer Between Platforms
So, I've search around for an answer for this and haven't really been able to get a proper one.

I have the full game and DLC's etc on Steam and have a save file with plenty of hours sunk into it. I've recently bought a Xbox Series X and I'm thinking on buying the game there as well.

My question is, is there any way to transfer my save file from Steam to my XSX? (I've seen people do it from Xbox Game Pass to Steam or from Windows 10 Store to Steam, but that's all on PC..)

An answer would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I don't think there is one, i know it's possible for PC and Nintendo but anything else i'm unsure of.
I don't want to be the person who will say "it's impossible", so I will just say that currently I'm not aware of any way on how to do this, unfortunately.

If Hollow Knight had XBox Play Anywhere and cloud save data sharing between Microsoft Store version and XBox version, like some games do, it may be possible, but currently it doesn't have such an option. Hollow Knight for PC on Microsoft Store and Hollow Knight for XBox are different, separate game versions.

I can confirm that you can transfer save files between Windows and Linux versions (you have to do it manually, because Steam Cloud synch doesn't do it between platforms), but I really doubt it's as easy between PC and consoles. I mean, technically I doubt the console versions use a different save file format and structure. But you would somehow need to get into the file system first, which usually isn't an easy task on consoles. But I don't know to be honest, maybe this is a common thing, I'm not knowledgeable about consoles.

Didn't they put out the crossplatform saves update this year? I'd hope that if it was only for a few select platforms they'd mention that fact

It's not cross-platform saves.
The announcement says "cross-platform cloud saves", which means that it's only for same-store cross-platform; In other words, if you have a save file on Steam Cloud, then on any other device where you have Hollow Knight installed through Steam, then Steam Cloud should be able to try to sync your saves.
Before that update, you could still technically get saves across different computer OS, but it required manually downloading the save files.
there is a way to transfer it. but it is very difficult and the only way i know how. you have to put the save data on a usb and then you have to plug it on your computer. then you have to change the code a little bit (don't know how). then it should work according to something that i found.
Just to update this thread, as I've now gotten every save transferred over.

If you have Game Pass, specifically, both on PC and Console (GP Ultimate for example), you can just install Hollow Knight on both PC (via Microsoft Store) and Xbox, and then launch the game on PC and it'll automatically fetch the save files from Steam (at least I don't recall doing anything - at most you have to copy the save files from Steam's save location to MS Store's save location [and perhaps change the name of the save file, but that's it]). Then all you have to do is launch the game on the Xbox and since it has cloud saves, it'll just sync them to the console.

Hope this helps anyone with the same issue.
