As I said, it took the safe route
I just don't get why people get so uppity like this. Shouldn't you want more games similar to games you love?
we are getting something like hollow knight a master piece, and the first thing people do is complain about it being like hollow knight.
hk released in 2017
An big part of why Hollow Knight is good is because of lots of things most people don't even know about :
The breakable wall tutorial;
The fool eater tutorials;
The big role the breakable background elements have in making you better at attacking (basically the same principle as zelda bushes);
The first belfy in City of tears is directly followed by two enemies (husks) the player probably already mastered fighting against, meaning a player that gets hit by the belfly can probably heal all the damage from the belfly's explosion using the soul from killing those husks;
Some things more people know about, like "Coyote Jumping";
And much, much more.
All those little details matter a lot, tilting the balance slightly in the player's favor, which makes the game better. And that's just one part of it!
There's also the masterly crafted difficulty curve, fair bossfights, and more.
If someone doesn't know about those things when making a game, that means they don't know what they're doing, meaning the game will naturally be bad, it doesn't matter if it's a copy or not.
BUT also, Crosworn is not even in ea or on kickstarter yet,, a lot might change in either direction up til release.
