Hollow Knight ruining internet speeds (Solved)
I have a 50 download 10 upload plan (mbps) for my internet, and any time I specifically run hollow knight, (and a small amount of other games) it drops to about 10 download and 0.2 upload mbps, which is causing extreme lag on discord. Does anyone know why this is happening? It doesn't happen when i run other games, and my hardware is very good atm.

First check if it's Hollow Knight, Steam or some other app. Hollow Knight can be run without Steam (DRM-free) if you put a steam_appid.txt file with the number 367520 inside the main HK folder where the hollow_knight.exe file is.

Close all other apps running in the background and leave only the Task Manager running with the Performance -> Ethernet tab opened to see what is happening with the internet in real-time while you are playing Hollow Knight.

Alright I did it, and it works as you said. No steam in task manager and the problem persists. it only happens when hollow knight is open, I will try reinstalling as I have messed a bit with the files for modding.

Alright can confirm it's either hollow knight, or some interaction that hollow knight hasd with something else. Hollow knight is definitely a part of it.
Okay, then. You can check in Task Manager -> Processes tab which process takes so much Network resources during playing? (you can sort the columns, it makes it easier)

It seems like something starts running in the background when you start using some fullscreen application.

Alright I'm back and I haven't found a way to fix it yet, and incase you're wondering fullscreen or not doesn't seem to change anything

You mentioned mods. Which ones were you using before the reinstall "without" mods? Did you have the multiplayer mod? (If you do and you're not using it, you could see if either reinstalling the mods and uninstalling that one makes a difference, or if this happens when you use a save file that you never used with any such mod.)

I don't know much about this stuff, but this just occurred to me as a possible angle to try while skimming the thread. Good luck with the troubleshooting!

The thing is it's not only hollow knight, or any games in particular. It shifts from game to game. Sometimes there's a problem sometimes there isn't. And it's not only steam games, maybe somethings wrong with my router or Ethernet settings.

I figured it out, lenovo has a feature on their computers called network boost and whenever you have a game open it caps your internet real hard so the bandwidth can go to the game, cool feature but super annoying when trying to do anything with a game open.

Ah. Good of you to post that here. Maybe someone else with the same issue will find it in future.

I would have loved that feature but for my router back when I still lived with my family...
No more screaming "Who's using Youtube?" while playing online pvp.
