either im stupid or the location of steam is different in my mac. Those code [cd Library/Application/Support/Steam/steamapps/common] does not work in my case. Still finding where's my file hiding but i appreciate your help.
The issue (at least in some cases) looks to stem from Steam (if on the beta client or on the recently released client June 7th). There are Mac players who can't launch any game via Steam. I don't know if it affects all macOS versions.
Thanks man, renaming worked, but I had reversed situation, the name was "hollow_knight" and I renamed it to "Hollow Knight" and error is gone.
Which macOS are you using?
Oh smh the website's got it wrong. There's a folder in Library called "Application Support" with a space in the middle, but Terminal gets confused when you plop a space in the middle of a path, so you have to "escape" it (i.e. put a BACKslash before the space).
It should read Application\ Support. Try:
cd Library/Application\ Support/Steam/steamapps/common
cd Hollow\ Knight/hollow_knight.app/Contents/MacOS
Which should jump you from step 2 to the middle of step 4. Then try:
./Hollow\ Knight
That should work, and did on my machine. Unless Hollow Knight is named hollow_knight or something on your end. You can use the "ls" (list) command to check, once you've used "cd" (change directory" to get to the MacOS folder.
EDIT: I also refer y'all to Team Cherry's recent post.

EDIT 2: I also recommend making a copy of your save file, as I detailed in this thread:

MACOS Big Sur Version 11.4, 64-bit version, mac doesn't support 32 bit version apps anymore.
My work around solution was to click yes to being part of the beta in :"Steam" / "Preferences" / "Account".
It asks you to update, then restart Steam and since then, everything works fine.
And this worked on another Mojave MacOS friend's computer.
Good luck to you guys ;)
It was posted about elsewhere first, but please check both the stickied post by TC and also a post by tintingaroo in the same thread for more details:

I have a m1 sillicon mac, and doing this has made my hollow knight run perfectly normally now.
