Hollow Knight v1.5.58.11762 now on public beta
Hi Everyone,

Hollow Knight v1.5.58.11762 is now available on the public-beta branch for all platforms. It can be accessed by right-clicking the game in your Steam library, then clicking "Properties", "Betas", and selecting "public-beta".

The main purpose of this version is to update our Unity version, but we've made some fixes also:

- Added "Borderless" option to fullscreen in video options
- Fixed uncollected Grubfather rewards being miss-able
- Enabled controller rumble (only supported for certain configurations, e.g. Xbox One controller on Windows)
- Fixed the Soul Tyrant battle in pantheons getting stuck after being defeated sometimes
- Fixed death loop if moving too high during Absolute Radiance phase 2
- 64-bit is now required for Windows
- Vulkan is now the default graphics API for Linux
- Other minor fixes

EDIT: A few things have been fixed/investigated so far:
- Steam Cloud storage has been increased from 2mb to 10mb
- If the game will not launch, verifying file integrity in Steam may fix it. (Right-click game in Library, select "Properties", "Local Files", "Verify integrity of game files")

When this eventually moves to the main branch we'll make sure to leave the current version on it's own beta branch for those who need the 32-bit version!

EDIT: v1.5.61.11779 is now available, with the following fixes:
- Fixed Elderbug's Greenpath hint dialogue
- Grimm chest reward is now left on the ground if you banish him without collecting it
- Fixed issues with binding mouse buttons
- Fixed multi damage sometimes taking too much health with lifeblood
- Fixed Absolute Radiance music change triggering too early if moving too high in phase 2
- Hopefully less hitching, and less memory usage on startup (enabled incremental GC, removed heap size increase method)
- Other small fixes

EDIT: v1.5.64.11792 is now available, with the following fixes:
- Reduced screen tearing during screen shakes
- Fixed Glowing Womb charm becoming inaccessible
- Sideways dash is now preferred when Dashmaster is equipped (less accidental down dashing!)
- Fixed issue where Watcher Knight's back roll was not happening
- Other fixes

EDIT: v1.5.65.11802:
- Crystal Guardian will now wake up when damaged by area attacks (Spore Shroom, etc)
- Fixed damage inconsistency with area attacks on Radiance, Absolute Radiance, and Pure Vessel
- Fixed settings changed in pause menu being reset when quitting to menu
- Fixed damage sometimes not being applied correctly to Nail Arts when using the Fury of the Fallen charm
- Fixed dialogue box getting stuck when talking to Cloth in Queen's Gardens
- Various minor map fixes
- Various minor translation fixes

EDIT: v1.5.66.11805:
- Fixed issue where closing the brightness menu in-game would in some cases restart the game
- Minor translation fixes

EDIT: v1.5.68.11808:
- macOS Apple Silicon native support removed. Some of our native plugins do not yet support it, which would result in Steam integration and controller issues. All platforms updated for version parity

EDIT: v1.5.68.11808 has been set live on the default branch! For players with 32-bit computers the previous version (1.4.3.2) can still be accessed as a beta

It might be a problem of your keyboard. Some keyboards are unable to handle multiple inputs, especially laptop keyboards

I have a few bugs to report, revolving around a couple of bosses.

Watcher Knight:

Pure Vessel:
  • They're completely immune to regular Flukenest (they still take damage from Flukenest + Defender's Crest). This also applies to the Hollow Knight.
  • They're immune to AoEs (Spore Shroom and any effects given by Defender's Crest) while they're on the ground. They only take damage if they're in the air or while they have their nail lodged in the floor when performing a dive attack.

I have one more thing to mention, though it's technically a feature request/complaint and not a bug report - the Flukenest + Defender's Crest combo doesn't currently get any damage increase from upgrading to Shade Soul (it deals the same amount of damage as it does with Vengeful Spirit), meaning it gets pretty much outclassed by all other spells once they're upgraded. Is there any chance for that to be implemented?

I haven't tested out the beta myself yet, but a fix that would be great is the 2 visual glitches with Abs Rad's orbs. Sometimes it will look like an orb is spawning, than it dissipates and goes away. The other is when the orb is despawning and still has an active hitbox that can hurt The Knight, even though the orb is visually gone.

@Team Cherry, here are a couple of map marker-related bugs. Thanks for your continued support!

1. Elder Hu (possibly other Warrior Dreams) not marked on map with appropriate marker.
The last stable patch had a bug where the map markers for Warrior Dreams failed to show Elder Hu regardless of whether you got the marker before or after visiting the room. Benching or saving and quitting to update your map didn't resolve this. I can now confirm this is still the case in the public beta. I believe I had this problem for Marmu on the last stable patch as well. I will check it in the beta soon. (Unfortunately I forgot to check this before defeating the rest of the Warrior Dreams on this save file.)

2. Lifeblood map markers inconsistent and/or inaccurate
I think this was also the case in the last stable update from what I remember. Right now I have a save on the beta that has a lifeblood location in Deep Nest (next to Failed Tramway) marked on the map even though I haven't bought that type of marker. You might think then that using lifeblood from cocoons marks the cocoon on your map even if you don't have the marker, but the one in the Mantis Lords room isn't marked though I used it on the same save file.

In case it helps, I'm on a PC with Windows 10 (64-bit).

So many fixes - very nice!
Double-jump now resets if landing while performing a nail art. GPZ no longer does damage when his stagger takes him up in the air.

There is a small visual glitch in the map where the small area connecting Deepnest and Fungal Wastes (circled in red) would never show on the map, even if you do pass through it https://imgur.com/fGE0YnE

I had that happening to me as well sometimes. I don't know what's the trigger though

If you get hit by an enemy and then hit a hazard like spikes or thorns while you still have your invincibility frames, you won't respawn with any i-frames left, meaning you can get hit as soon as you respawn. This is particularly noticeable with No Eyes's Ascended arena since it's both full of hazards and full of projectiles everywhere. This bug also makes it so you can double jump during your "getting hit by a spike" animation, which is wacky.

I haven't tested this since I don't know how I'd trigger it, but there's a glitch that happens every once in a while when you land the finishing blow on Absolute Radiance, sometimes an orb won't despawn and will hit you during your finishing animation when the Knight's shell cracks open, and this can steal a win in Pantheon 5 as well as in the Hall of Gods from you, as can be seen at 8:56 in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38C1nilxfbA&t=536s

I don't know if this is intentional, but with the combination of weaversong and grubsong bosses like False Knight and The Collector still give soul when hit by the spiders, even though those bosses can't give soul when they are hit normally

I'm pretty sure this is intended. Either way, many people who do minion builds seem to depend on this.

The Absolute Radiance (I didn't check for regular Radiance) seems to be overall immune to AoEs, similarly to Pure Vessel, meaning Spore Shroom and Defender Crest do no damage to her, and neither does the cloud damage from Glowing Womb and Flukenest when Defender's Crest is equipped, only the two's contact damage.
I checked on the most recent beta version and she did not appear to be visibly nor audibly hit by any of the types of damage listed, and then I swapped to a modded build of 1.4.3.2 that let me check her HP at all times, and she was indeed not taking any damage from those sources, the best I got was 4 contact damage from Glowing Womb and 3 from Flukenest.

This also happens with the Void Tendrils in the Abyss.
