ok so i beat him.. but he seemed too easy and ive heard of other phases so does the torch mean anything?

Yep, you can actually battle him 10 times. Each time he is stronger.
Something will happen if you defeat him 4 times...

There is also some hidden version of Zote in the Godhome (Hall of Gods), if you manage to find it.

"Zote the Mighty" is real world Zote - it's the same title you see on screen when you find him in Colosseum. The figment of Bretta's imagination you were talking about is called "Grey Prince Zote" (or "GPZ").

I found the result of four defeats interesting but I'm not a fan of that fight so I looked up the 10th defeat "reward" and found it underwhelming. Maybe you'll find it more worthwhile though. *edit* One more thing - his name keeps getting longer for each additional difficulty level when you defeat him.

BTW if you just want to fight bosses, I suggest you go to Godhome, but how many endings have you seen so far?
