Notice the asterisks below the "Compendium" section, before "Enemies without Journal Entries":
You probably missed (or didn't kill enough of) one of the monsters without asterisks.
Also, like Lydian said, some entries aren't actually required.
There are total of 168 entries, 4 of which don't increase the maximum entry count (so maximum you can have is 164/164).
Only 146 base entries are required to get the Hunter's Mark.
After you used my Tool, tell us what you missed!
I'm sure some people will not agree with "hunter's mark doesn't give anything", but it's fine to feel that way.
You get a fun fake-out with the Hunter, and an entry in the Hunter's Journal for the Mark, and the satisfaction of a job well done.
In this case, it's not even challenging, so unless you want that sweet 100%, just skip it.
I appreciated the lore from all the boss, Abyss, and certain dream world-related entries, as well as the extra interaction with the Hunter at the end. The world building from the entries helped me understand not only the enemies but the character of the Hunter is revealed in the things he says, and story-related stuff in general is very interesting to me.
For me similarly like for kanna the whole process of discovery and completion of the Hunter's Journal is a reward in itself, and the things I get after completing it (achievement, animations, lore) are just an icing on the cake. Some things like grinding for some entries (killing required amount of enemies) was maybe setting the limit too high, but it happened really rarely when compared to the whole.
Yep, otherwise it's pointless. You can have a challenge AND a great reward tied to it.
If I'm going to do something challenging and not have a reward (new skill, new spell, access to a new area, a significant piece of lore, etc.), I might as well pick up my guitar and practice. It's challenging AND has a reward tied to it.
Yeah, it's not challenging, it's a grind. The challenge is not falling asleep while you go back and forth killing the same mob 50 times in a row.
I don't understand why they didn't simply show the lore after you killed the mob once. Hollow Knight's biggest strength is the exploration, platforming and mysterious lore, not the combat.
