Whenever I see something like "what is the best" I think: This is a largely subjective matter. It also depends on your controller. Try what works best for you, your hardware and your usage. If you will try different things, you will know what works the best (in your personal case).
Any time you catch yourself thinking "it's hard to use/do something in the game", you can try identifying why that is so and try to optimize it.
That said, you might be used to a different setup from other games you've played. If I had that problem, I would do what I've done for other games and just pick a game with a similar style of play and match as much of my custom control scheme to how it would work in that game as possible.
