Crystal Hunter
I swear i can't play this game more than 1 hour without tilting.

First time i tilted losing 1000 geo, then 400... i eventually found a farming patter and farmed what i needed. Now i don't care about losing geo.
But for ♥♥♥♥♥ sake that Crystal Hunter things are the most annoying things i have encountered in a game in the past years.

lol yes they are

best strategy in my opinion is to pogo them, they can't hit you when you're above them.

Wait until you get to primal aspids...
Protip #1: Quit to Menu when you have 1 mask health left.
Protip #2: Equip Grubsong + Thorns of Agony combination.

In addition to the nice tips above, if you grinded for geo and went straight to Crystal Peak from Forgotten Crossroads before going anywhere else first, you're gonna have a hard time on your first playthrough. Save it for later, if so. There's no need to grind geo in this game, except for a certain set of optional upgrades you can get much later on.

Well i went to other areas first.. the reason i grinded geo is i lost 1400. I have like 4 waypoints to travel now and defeated some bosses. I don't know where to go now so i went crystal peaks and i have to cross some crystals.. i guess i will just farm more to get some other modifiers/upgrades. I have to jump over some crystals with a hunter spamming crystals on me.. he is so annoying.

I guess i should go greenpath again and find other areas. I know there is a dark area that i can now explore and i should find the thorns of agony.

Thanks for the tips

Protip #1 will prevent you losing Geo, and Protip #2 will greatly increase your survivability.

Try using a Simple Key on a manhole in City of Tears, if you haven't already.

Crystal Peak requires Lumafly Lantern to progress further (if you are a normal player, and not a masochist), but without the Lantern you can also discover something which will open new paths for you in the game world.

Generally on my playthrough I try not to focus on grinding, because I know that I would make the game for myself tedious (I hate grinding) and after some time I would certainly get bored/frustrated by it... I rather focus on exploration and adventuring, and let the Geo just flow naturally.

Some nice tips are for example:
✅ If you have a problem with survival, save your Soul for healing, not on spells. Heal always, at every moment you have Soul and when you lost even a single mask. Outside of combat. Because healing in combat usually means quick death, unless you know the perfect moment. Saving Soul will effectively grant you at least 3 free health masks to your life total. Healing outside of combat will let your mind focus on the combat.
✅ Sitting on a bench respawns all more difficult enemies. Exiting and returning to an area only respawns the simple enemies.
✅ Rescue each Grub and go back to the Grubfather often (in Forgotten Crossroads)
✅ Play on headphones, so you can notice every sound: this will let you find secret areas and Grubs easily and relics which you can sell for Geo (relics give out a particular sound) as well as mask shards which will improve your survivability.
✅ Smash every wall you think looks suspicious with your nail or spell.
✅ Use custom pins on your map to mark suspicious/unaccessible/hard/boss locations, so you will know where to return. The game world is huge and you won't remember everything, pins help with that.

Judging by OP's anwser, they aren't there yet and they already got to crystal peak with the lantern.

No problem. As you can see, everybody here is glad to help if you have questions or you're having trouble. (And we all miss some things on our first playthrough that seem obvious when you look back later.)

I'll add to the great general tips up there from @rezno[R] that before you leave one room and before you leave a major area, you should be sure to have explored every room of that area thoroughly before moving on. Don't leave any open paths on that map unless you can't get to them yet. If there's somewhere you can't reach but the map is already filled in for that room, that's when you want to use a map marker to help you remember it later.

Proceeding this way for your first time through every new area not only prepares you for the next area but saves you a lot of map-roaming later when you get a new item or ability and don't know where to use it (because you didn't mark your map and can't remember where to go).

I managed to pass that section, annoying but i managed to cross. I had no other options at at point. I explored everything and had to pass the crystal peak. Those crystal throwers are annoying but i managed to find a way to beat them without any special charms.
I usually play at night and i guess i am tired and tilt easily. I really enjoy hard games over eazy ones.

Even if i tilt i usually come back cause i don't like to give up on challenge.
I enjoyed supermeatboy. and finished every world including dark worlds. this should be easier.

Crystal Peak isn't that bad if you have gotten some upgrades and abilities first. Preferably some additional masks (or the Fragile Heart charm) and a stronger nail especially. If your health is good, you can also use your left/right spell for more annoying enemies like Crystal Hunters, but I prefer to either run quickly past them or quickly pogo them to death before they can react.

A lot of new players assume you have to kill everything in every single room before you move on, but this is a big waste of time. The only time I do that is to either (a) get soul if I don't have another faster way to do it, or (b) if I'm wearing the Fragile Greed and Gathering Swarm charms and I want to gather a little extra geo while travelling, but even then I probably won't bother with every enemy along the way unless they all drop good amounts of geo (preferably 12+ with Greed charm on).

Which bosses have you beaten? Which items do you have? It's hard to tell, but it seemed from your earlier posts you might have missed some upgrades that you could find useful.

Yea unfortunately i am not having fun with this game.
As i said finished sekiro, bloodborne, supermeatboy, dmc 3,4,5, captain claw etc.
I have experience with hard games but this has some retarded rng into it.
I mean i died 20+ times at that elder hu boss. I am using the souls charm and the shell charm.
I purchased the health charm just to discover it breaks if i die.

This boss is beyond retarded with the rng and the fact that i get hit if i touch him is even retarded.

I beaten Gruz Mother, False Knight, Moss Charger and Hornet.. not so many. I am currently stuck at Elder HU. I feel like he has infinite health... i just got tired. Impossible to dodge 3-4 falling pillars in a row. I mean cmon i am so early in the game and it's already impossible to beat a damn boss. That rng is killing me.

I really want to like this game but it just tiltes me too much. Why the hell is this game so hard.. i don't remember if i chose any difficulty at the beginning.

I don't feel any sense of progression, i don't even know how much health the boss has, why the ♥♥♥♥ there is no bar so i know how much dmg i need to inflict to defeat. I mean i have no tools to deal with some of the things he's throwing at me. I hit him 30+ times and he's still not dead

Dude i am so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tilted i feel like dark souls 3 is candy crush compared to this game. (I played like 2 hours and got bored, maybe because i played bloodborne too much before, now that time has passes i think i will give it a chance again)

According to my tool:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2209910193
...as well as to Team Cherry, Elder Hu is a category P3 boss (1 the lowest, 4 the highest), which means it's best to leave him for later, when you get more upgrades. All the bosses you defeated for now are category P1 (lowest), so Elder Hu must have been quite a step up in difficulty.

Generally get used to it, that every time you will meet a challenge, that seems too hard for you at the moment - just leave it be, and return later, better equipped. I feel like maybe you want to have too much too fast? 🤔

C'mon, I'm a casual platforming player (not a lot of experience with platforming games), and I managed to defeat some of the most challenging things in this game. You can do it too 🙂

Remember that most of the things here is completely optional. Only ~16% of all bosses are required to see the credits. If you don't like a challenge, just move on. There are at least 3 more things you can do or go to explore that I can think of fast now.

Well i explored crystal, greenpath, fog and there is nothing that i can explore more there. Everything is blocked by spikes or poison water. I thought that 100 essence will help me progress with the Y thing.
kanna Mar 6, 2021 @ 10:06am
I asked what bosses you've beaten and items/abilities you have because I'm trying to tell where you should go next, not to judge your progression in the game. You're not going to be good at every game you play when just starting out.

Most bosses are optional. You don't need to fight Elder Hu now (or ever). If you hadn't gotten the Dream Nail, you wouldn't even be able to see him there-- just a gravestone. Don't even worry about Essence right now. Save that for later. But DO experiment with Dream Nailing most things in the game, like NPCs, slower enemies, dead bodies, statues, etc. (DON'T dream nail ghosts right now, though. You might start a fight like with Elder Hu.) And you can at least take advantage of the fact that Dream Nailing enemies gets you much more soul than hitting them with your nail.

You set your own difficulty level in a Metroidvania game like this one by choosing which challenges you want to face when. Rather than taking the hints the game gives for new players (like Elderbug's hints where he describes the places in Hallownest you might want to visit next), you are choosing to do later game stuff earlier, even though you are missing upgrades and experience that would help you if you did an easier route through the game.

This is analogous to going to going up a ski slope and choosing the black diamond run path when you should be doing a green or blue run. Just because you *can* go there, doesn't mean you should.

There is a very important movement ability in Fungal Wastes, the Mantis Claw. Get that if you don't have it already, and once you've seen every room you can, just leave Fungal for now. Follow where Hornet went.

If you've been lower down in Fungal Wastes, you would have seen a screen where she ran off to the right and then if you followed her to the next screen, you see her use her needle and thread to fly across a long room. Get across that room (taking it slow and careful, if you're not good at platforming), and go explore the new area beyond. In that new area, go down to the bottom first and then go all the way left before you go anywhere else. You will find a place you should return to multiple times before doing some of the harder fights in this game.

There's not much RNG in Hollow Knight, especially not for the early game bosses you mentioned. Most boss fights are highly patterned. Keep in mind you can't just throw yourself at a boss and damage tank or button mash. You need to actually learn how to fight them properly. If a specific boss is causing you trouble and you can't just skip it, then feel free to ask for help or check one of the many guides here or on Youtube.

In general, always figure out your best charms for the job you're doing, and from about mid-game on at least, it pays to know how to use your spells and not just your nail so you can end fights faster and lower your chances of making mistakes that get you killed.

My problem is i don't know what to do next as i didn;t see any other path i can take so i thought this guy is the next thing. I was tired running in circle.. in the fugnal area i just get stuck at the bouncing mushrooms cause i can't jump on them Now that i know this guy is optional i will return later to him. Besides this boss i had some troubles getting past that crystal thing but i just needed to insist. In rest i found it to be ok and didn't have much trouble
