Is parry really woth it?
I've noticed some enemies are still able to deal damage even though the parry connects (which is indicated by the sound of the colliding nails).

It takes a lot of getting used to and I wouldn't recommend it for newer players, but YES it definitely does save you from damage and I specifically use it on bosses like The Hollow Knight/Pure Vessel, particularly during their 3 big swings attack, and with the Watcher Knights when I want to continue to pogo them while they're swinging their nail at me, and other cases, but I'm really only capable of doing the *downswing* variant where basically all you're doing is pogoing the thing.

If you're good at bouncing off stuff that's moving with your nail, it might be an option for you to learn in specific cases. If you're not so good at that (especially for the first two bosses above where you might have to make adjustments to shift yourself to the left or right in the air to match their precise positioning and it's not just about timing only), then it's not such a good idea to try this yet.

The one exception where I recently learned to parry *on purpose* while standing on the ground is with the Great Husk Sentries in City of Tears. If you hit their shield, the response swing (or double-swing) is pretty slow, so it's a simple rhythm in that case.

You have to get the timing right though and parrying will *not* save you if you're most of the way inside the damage source's hitbox). Well, maybe if you're really lucky? But as far as I've experienced, you have to be just overlapping the hitbox for it to work.

Parrying saved me a couple of times but it's not something to rely on.
It is a very precise mechanic, which saves you from damage (gives invincibility frames) and deals damage to the attacker at the same time (if the attacker was within the nail range).
Easy to learn, hard to master.
The decision is up to the player. (for me it was not worth it, I suck at precision-timed strikes)

This video was good for showing some of the possible usage cases: (Lots of End-game Spoilers, beware)

Are u sure parrying saves the player from taking damage? I've taken damage from Pure Vessel several times while parring one of its attacks.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I see, now it makes sense. I thought parring enemies attacks would save me of any damage regardless of the hit box, thanks a lot.

You're welcome, and congrats! Finished P4? If not, I'm sure you'll get it soon.

No, but it's impressive when someone does it.
