Here is some biased words: Hollow Knight offers several amazing designs that ori 2 doesn’t really have to make players feel much more immersed. Therefore, for me it’s actually harder to put down HK even though there are really hard boss fights.
10/10 would recommend
You can't go wrong with this game.
If this and all above are not good recommendations, then you can always search "Hollow Knight" on the Ori games forums. You'll find a lot of discussions there! I recommend searching on Ori forums, because there you will mostly find opinions from Ori fans (just like you). Here you will find mostly opinions of Hollow Knight fans (though of course a lot of them, including myself, play and love/enjoyed both Ori games as well).
Your own definition of "good metroidvania" or "best metroidvania" will of course be different than my or others' definitions.
So in the end, try it. Who knows, you might like it. You won't know it if you don't try it yourself.
I mean, in every regards, except you don't use a blaster, lol.
It is one of the best games in this genre.
If you want something more classic metroid like, Environmental Station Alpha is probably the best classic Metroid like game out there. It has a unique grappling hook mechanic, that can be used for speed running tricks. The hook is kinda physics based, so every thing you do with it is skill based, rather than plain distance like in Axiom Verge.
Buying the game on Steam would be the best, since you can easily ask a refund if you don't like the game (as long as you don't surpass the time limit)
About the platform... Do you like mods? Do you feel more comfortable with controller or with keyboard+mouse? That could help you make a choice.
Of course, you don't play it as long as Minecraft or Elite Dangerous. But the game is a stroke of genius.
Anyway, I can't compare to Ori but I can say Hollow Knight fits the classic definition of a Metroidvania and that it's a massive game that's a great deal of fun to play. Just be aware it starts a little slow and that it will take time to build up skill as it has hard challenges toward the end.
