Fighting bosses is more about understanding and surviving them than defeating them.
If you could see their HP, you might throw away attempts by taking unneeded risks to get the final hits in. If a player tried an inconsistent strategy and got far into a fight by pure luck(and knew that because they could see the HP), they would probably try the same strategy again, which would lead them down a frustrating path.
Speaking of frustration, player would also be much more frustrated from losing fights if they could see they were very close to victory when their health reached zero.

There is an hp bar mod you can get. also idk if youve gotten to it yet but the grimm boss fight has special attacks at 75, 50, and 25% health, which is cool

Thank you folks
There certainly are mods that display the health bar, but I personally think that figuring out the bosses' pace and rhythm of attacks (I think a lot of them do have new attacks or postures for different health stages) is also interesting and rewarding:steamhappy: Anyway it all depends on your choice :)

I am new to mods, so is this game public domain, how can people design mods? Is it done for other games too? Who makes mods?

1 : No, Hollow Knight isn't public domain. Also, a game being public domain won't change anything about modding.(maybe you're thinking about "open source"?)
2 : I'm not sure how to answer that one without being unclear.
3 : Yes.
4 : Modders.(In other words, people (who know how to code) who have the patience and dedication to fully code the mod they want to make.)

Coming from someone who used hp bar mod, it kills immersion and throws me off a lot

Nope. I love having no lifebar. You don't find yourself "chasing" that last bit of damage and I like the idea of just plugging away until you win and you're never sure when that final blow will land.

Besides, a reasonable player can tell how much HP is left based on their phases in many cases. For example, once Pure Vessel starts doing the tendril move you know he's down to 1/3 left.

I'm always amazed at the countless time modders spend making mods to nerf games rather than just using that time to get better at games so they don't have to nerf them.

just get the hpbar mod lmao

Lame. Play as intended.
Just don’t. You might like knowing how much hp a boss has but it just ruins the immersion. It’s definitely not worth it unless you already have beaten all of the bosses a lot. As someone who has tried it, it’s not worth it. Just play as intended.

Please add a health bar homey. I've been fighting Hornet for well over 5 minutes now and don't know if I'm even doing damage. What if I am too weak to fight the boss and it's a big waste of my time to even attempt it? Health bars allow people to judge if they're making progress and if it's worth it to fight.

No health bar needed for me
Just wait for pufferfish per 25%

It would still be better if there was a health bar at least for bosses.
